What has SP done for dark girls ?

Now that SP is finally ending , the question that arises in our minds is ...........what did SP do for dark girls ? The answer is ..........nothing . SP only made the lead actress Rajshree Thakur famous , bas , but although it started out with a bang ..........addressing the social issue of dark girls in India , where fair gals r given preference in the marraige market .....what exactly did SP do for the dark gals who hopefully watched this show ? The answer is ..........nothing . It only raised the hopes of the dark gals to dash them to the ground . SP could have given so much more ............but all it showed was that yes , perhaps a dark gal can have a momentary fairy tale wedding , but her fate will always be unfortunate .
Was it for this that hundreds of dark gals in India got hooked on this show ? It is a throbbing issue that in the Indian marraige market , dark gals r treated like second class citizens. This is the pulse that SP caught , but Saloni 's miserable life after marraige with no personal happiness and now Sawri's demure , sheepish demeanour , enduring any atrocity flung her way , would make any dark gal watching this show outraged .
And now they r ending the show .........shame on SP for tricking multitudes of viewers who hoped to see the concept of beauty in India redifined , that dark gals can be immensely succesful , that boys wud go scuttling for dark gals once SP was over with the impact it made on the viewership ! That dark gals wud get more self esteem after watching SP ...........I am not talking of the cities but those in villages ! This problem is really severe in rural India .......and television is such a powerful medium !
Of course SP makers will say they owe nothing to no one .........they just made a TV serial for commercial success , bas . And it was highly succesful ! They r not a social organisation etc etc . But aren't the creative team made of human beings in India who know exactly what majority of Indian women suffer in the marraige market due to the color discrimination issue ..........wasn't this the pulse that they cleverly caught to hook the viewers ? And that very viewership that made u succesful , u guys don't deliver what they want ??!!!
SP took a dusky beauty and made her a household name .........Rajshree Thakur . But even before her , Waheeda Rehman , Bipasha Basu , Priyanka Chopra , recenly Deepika Padukone et etc have already proved that one needn't be fair to be beautiful . SP wud have really done something creative if they had not played safe and taken just a dusky but even darker gal for the character of Saloni . They shud have dared . And yes , they shud have dared to show that she has the capacity to catch success in her fist and bring it in her life !
Why was it not shown that Saloni could achieve success in her personal life too , that she emerged a winner as a wife and as a mother too ? R Dark girls meant to lay down their lives for protecting the butts of some spoilt fair women .............like Saloni protected Tara or Sawri protects Shweta ? This awful , servile message for color discriminated women .............was that what SP was about ? Coz this show literally gives nothing as it ends !
No one wanted to see dark women suffering all the time . We wanted , for a change , to see dark women winning , and SP failed to deliver .

Bravo Madhu exactly my thoughts and to add why SP took easy way out and be stereotypical in showing her suffering like most serial heroines. if You wanted to make diff why you did not stand out like mentioned here and made sawari and saloni winners rather than suffering thru their life. If skin color was issue then SP would have taken more dusky girls and shown them winners.
On one side u show them smarter and caring heroines then contradicting your own story show them getting sufffered so much.
Why lighter skin women have upper hand in SP examples are sweta kamini Tara Kaveri etc.
I am really grateful that SP touched lots of issues facing our society. But still failed to deliver showing the main issue and made saloni ka safar entirely saloni ka suffer and now sawri ka suffer.😡

Raksha Didi........
Looking at the full story and how it is ending , I will summarize SP 's message as ...........
The Kaali Kalutis have only one role in life . Koi Gori ko apni boss banao aur uski poori zindagi seva karo . Jaise Saloni ne ki Tara ki , aur jaise Sawri kar rahi hai Shweta ki .
Harsh as this sounds , its exactly what SP shows . Dark women shud get outraged and throw tomatoes at these creatives , honestly . Even now , the story is more about Shweta than Sawri . Shweta Raghvir ka romance , Shweta being harassed by Aman ...........Shweta Shweta Shweta ! Arre baba whogives a damn about Shweta , ask us viewers what we want na . We want to see more of Sawri and Ramprasad , we wanna see Sawri developing guts , we wanna see Sawri reopening her mom's case and freeing her mom by proving Adi's testimony false , we wanna see Sawri respectfully but firmly reminding Tara and Bhabho that they too r of servant origin !
Instead of saat phere , this show shud hve been called Kaali Kalutiyon Ka Yehi Naseeb ..................this name suits more !

Saat Phere is a story of a girl's struggles against the stigma forced upon her by society. Saloni is determined to not let society's will be imposed upon her and ruin her life and has the will, spirit and the courage to embark upon the journey to search for her own unique identity.

This is from the summary of the show and while reading it I have taken out and incorporate what I think are the key points from it. I have yet to see a unique identity with unique being the operative word here in Saloni but also in Savri in this story.

I agree with you g_spice wher eis saloni's identity or for that matter sawari. All saloni did was sacrificed herself on altar sving most ungrateful and so did sawri . But at least sweta appreciates and loves her sis.
SO SP owes us that much to us the viewers and show Saloni and Sawari amde the mark in the society.
Wait a minute SP makers thinking may be marrying the dark girls in so called rich ppl who are very poor in everything else including common sense is a big accomplishment. Then it is so pitifull and shamefull. We as a audience at least want to see saloni make herself mark in society on her own. you owe us the faithful viewers that much.

What unique identity is the queston ! Saloni was always treated as a second class citizen and Tara was the queen bee . At home , Saloni was merely the second bahu , and twice or thrice flung out of the house according to Tara's whims . In the business too , Nahar Saloni were not having controlling power or anything . The singing that Saloni did so well wasn't really pursued professionally at all . All she did was protect Tara , like some feudal bodyguard . I find this extremely insulting ............for a woman to be portrayed as sumerging her identity with he sisterinlaw's identity as if her own identity had no value .

You do have a point there koolsadhu100. SP hasnt done anything for dark-skinned girl in particular but in a sense I believe it has shown viewers that dark-skinned girls are not bad. Maybe one should look on the inside as well. In both Saloni's case and Sawri's case, although they are dark on the outside but the inside is much more beautiful. But then yet again to the human mind, looks play a more important part.

It's sad to see that in the last couple of years Saloni now Sawri, has only suffered. She was there for everyone but no one was there to support her during her times of misry. Infact it was kind of surprising when the Singh family just threw Saloni out of their lives afterall she did for the family.

The show definitely had a unique concept but in the end like other shows, it followed the same path with the same boring stories.
btw, interesting discussion!

Yes , but is that it ? Like u said .........that dark skinned girls r not bad ? Bas ? Then what big great message did the SP wallahs give , yeh toh hamare buzurg log bhi kehte the ! Infact , u put it so rightly , so aptly , that I wish to point out how insulting that concept is when u listen twice to it !
Dark skinned gals [ and i dont mean dusky , i mean dark ] can be lovely ........beautiful ! They can be ebony sculptures , and everybit as good as fair gals . Why did SP put hem in the not so bad category and tried to put that patronising tone in the show that what matters is what is inside ? Why , cannot they be aces as a package ? Why this explanatory ' inside dekho ' tone ! The moment that tone is taken , it is kind of admitting that they r not beautiful . The fact that the inside beauty is true beauty goes even for fair girls right ?
I personally feel dark women look beautiful , with their smooth dark skin and sculpted features , and any sculpture of God .........be it Vishnu or Ganpati or Devi , in smooth black stone looks the best ! Of course these r my own personal views .
Also , why is it shown that both Sawri and Saloni r ' good ' and ' nice ' coz they protect the spoilt fair babes in the house .......namely Shweta and Tara [ the elderly babe ] ? What kind of rubbish is this and how come people r so quiet , tolerating this nonsense ?
Sorry if my views r radical . Just voicing them dear . Thanks a lot for ur reply , I was wondering if anyone else wud reply or not !😊

Kool you are so right this show has done nothing for dark-skinned girls, if anything, its made things worse. This was the first Indian serial I ever watched and at first I was so impressed. But now I am sad I ever watched this show, as its message perpetuates the stereotypical, assinine views that exist in these modern times. Prejudice will always be alive and well in our society; how disgusting to show it so prominently as entertainment. I am glad this show is going off, but ultimately I am sorry it ever came on.
