Music played a vital role for the long run of a film in the box office. It still does! The only difference is that the spectrum of music have only widened over the years. It is no more bonded to the screenplay alone, rather it plays a great role in entertaining people all over. Pubs, discos, clubs, cars, shopping malls, pan wallas, hair saloons, there is no place where we don't get to hear Bollywood music ringing our ear. It can't be shrugged off that a good musical album can get a film box office success. And so the film makers still consider it to be a great aspect to dress up their films. Let's roll over the years top chart busters and film scores that made you rock and roll! There were heavy downpour of songs this year, some hitting the charts, some managing to pull fine while other losing out. Bollywood music saw a new trend with club music dominating the scene. The composers made hay while the sun shone. Himesh Reshammiya refined the category and gave some outstanding groovy tunes with 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne', 'Aksar' and 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya'. In real sense of the term the year belonged to him as he delivered one chart buster after another. 'Bluffmaster' also made a difference with the remix and Abhishek Bachchan's track, and is one of the hottest releases of the year. A.R Rehaman had a busy year with 'Kisna', 'Bose The Forgotten hero', 'Mangal Pandey' and 'Rang De Basanti'. The albums earned rave reviews but failed to get commercial success. Singer Adnan Sami brought melody back to music with 'Lucky', a sweet musical album. Anu Malik just managed fine with 'No Entry' and 'Zeher'. The year belonged to the frontline singers like Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Asha Bhosle. Newcomer Kunal Ganjawala and his wife Gayatri Iyer, Abhijeet Sawant and Amit Sana were the talent to watch. This handful of singers ruled the roost humming the most hit and the popular numbers. Not to miss Himesh Reshammiya, who is the new talent in the block rocking the music scene. Richa Sharma, Shweta Pandit, Babul Supriyo, Madhushree, Soumya Raoh, Kavita Krisnamurthy, Abhijeet, Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal had a low profile year. Bunty Aur Babli There can be no hesitations to rate this album in the top of the charts this year. BAB presented the most happening and the most popular songs scored by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Laced with the lyrics of Gulzar and some outstanding tunes to make you swing and sway it appealed to classes and masses alike with the peppy foot tapping numbers. 'Kajrare', 'Dhadak dhadak', 'Nach baliye' will keep rocking the New Year too. Paheli This is undoubtedly the musical masterpiece of the year composed by MM Kreem. With Rajasthani folk tunes, Hindustani classical tunes and some effective lyrics, the soundtrack as a whole is ethereal. Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Madhushree, Sukhwinder Singh, all deserve applaud for their vocals. This one was reckoning. Parineeta Music knows no boundary and time, this is what the compositions of Shantanu Moitra proved. The tunes are soulful and earthy, finding a place straight to your heart. The music follows an unconventional route and is not the regular kind of stuff that we encounter everyday. 'Piyu Bole', 'Kasto Mazaa' and 'Kaisi Paheli' appeal to sense and sensibility. |
