Hiten Tejwani's not gunning for lead roles
Mumbai: Despite being one of the most sought after actors on small screen, Hiten Tejwani is seen only in supporting roles in various shows. Sounds weird? However, Hiten says this is one of the main reasons why is still doing so well in the TV industry.
"I have been in the industry for eight years. When I started, there were so many others along side me; now where are they? I played the lead in Kutumb, my debut serial. But after that if I had been stubborn asking for lead roles, just a few shows would have come my way. At the end of the day one has to survive in the industry," he says.
He, however, adds, "If something interesting comes in terms of lead roles, I am game for it. I believe that one principle works in the TV industry - out of sight is out of mind. So, I always keep my options open," he adds. Hiten will be seen in yet another Balaji serial Kitani Mohabbat Hai.
"Soon, I will be entering the serial. I have not been doing too much work, so when I was offered this role I immediately took it up. Though it's early to talk about the character, but all I can say is that it is a little similar to Anil Kapoor's character in Taal," he says.
After Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi went off-air, Hiten did a cameo in Kumkum with wife Gauri. However, the show is slated to go off-air.
"As an actor I am not bothered by the TRP game. I was not doing something very interesting. When I joined Kumkum, I was excited because the character had grey shades. And in the afternoon slot it was doing quite well," he explains.
He's always been known as a Balaji actor, more precisely a trusted lieutenant of Ekta Kapoor. So, how easy is to work outside Balaji? "I have a great camaraderie with Ekta. Balaji is always the home ground and they are always my first preference. But if I am offered a good role outside, I would work without any hassle. I have known Ekta for years and there has been no problem whatsoever," he ends.
