Will Shah Rukh Khan be lured into politics?

Will Shah Rukh Khan be lured into politics? Will Shah Rukh Khan contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections on Congress party ticket? Similar questions are being raised at almost every forum whenever the name of India's king Khan is mentioned.

A senior Congress leader a few days ago had said that the party would be happy to give ticket to Shah Rukh Khan if he is willing to fight the polls. SRK being one of the most popular stars in the country with fans in millions in every metro, he is surely a winning shot for the Congress party.

Congress party had indicated that it was no longer interested in Bollywood actor Govinda contesting elections on its ticket. Govinda was elected for Lok Sabha in June 2004 in the 14th Lok Sabha elections defeating Ram Naik of the Bharatiya Janata Party. But he has been accused of not paying any attention to his duties that come being a people's representative.

Congress is in search of a Bollywood actor who can fill the void of Sunil Dutt, a Bollywood stalwart who was a politician and a successful actor at the same time. He won five Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North West constituency.Shah Rukh Khan is hugely popular across the country and he has good chances from any Mumbai constituency if he willed to do so.

Shah Rukh Khan can be a good choice for the Congress party. But the biggest question is as to whether the king khan will bit the bait. So far Shah Rukh Khan has not spoken on the issue. He has never shown his willingness to join politics. fact he seemed averse to any such idea. While speaking at a HT summit in 2007 the king Khan had said, "Politics to too self-sacrificing and I am too business-oriented to be a politician…Also I am too good-looking to be a politician".

But Congress party may like him to contest election. According to party sources, party MP Govinda had expressed his unwillingness to continue. In that context, the party might consider someone like Shah Rukh as a likely nominee.
