I've been monogamous
for seven years: Lara

Akshay and Bobby — incidentally her co-stars in 'Dosti' — are among the actor's best friends, but her priorities are boyfriend Kelly, films and family

Is it possible for a man and woman to be friends in Bollywood?
Of course, it is. Three of my good friends are men - Abhishek (Bachchan), Akshay (Kumar) and Bobby (Deol). I call Abhishek 'Amma' because he is overprotective of all the women he's close to. Akshay is the kind who will scream at you if you make a mistake, but he's also someone I would go to for advice. Bobby is a baby, an absolute sweetheart. I can understand if their wives or girlfriends, or Kelly were insecure. But everyone knows where we stand. I have been monogamous for seven years.
So, are you getting the seven-year itch?
No! Our relationship has changed a lot. You still keep watching the door for that person to walk in, but the feeling is so much different. I have been incredibly lucky. A lot of my colleagues crib about there being no good men around. But you have to work really hard at it, and it doesn't come overnight. As an actor how long can you go on? I definitely don't want to be around to be playing mother or bhabhi to Akshay and Bobby. I want something fulfilling to go back to.
Is it difficult to stay loyal in this industry?
I don't think so. Yes, I see my co-stars more than my boyfriend. But with me the focus is totally on work as the stakes are really high.
Doesn't passion go for a toss after a few years in the relationship?
Definitely not. It moves into something much deeper and more meaningful. I love a relationship when it just starts…but after a point it has to move beyond just romance.
Would you call Kelly your best friend?
Yes. In more ways than one. He knows me better than my parents. There are certain things that I cannot obviously tell my parents, but I can tell Kelly everything.
Aren't you under pressure to get married?
I want to get married and settle down at some point, but now is not the right time to do so. It's not because of my career. I am not mentally prepared for it just yet. And I have the coolest set of parents. In fact, when I tell my dad I want to tell him something, he turns around and says, 'I hope you are not getting married!' So fortunately there is no pressure.
