I used to watch Astitva mentioned in this article- It was a very sensitive and realistic portrayal of a career oriented, independent woman. But as the writer has pointed out, it didn't appeal to the masses (here I assume it is majorly the housewife female viewers) at that time. But may be now that more women are going the career-way, I hope the production houses move ahead of their saas-bahu sagas.

Though I don't watch Bidaai/Balika vadhu, I am glad to know they have questioning protagonists.
I am of the opinion that mass media should tackle social issues along with entertainment when there is a chance. Particularly for a complex society like India, mass media will need to act more responsible.

^You have a point there Kash. This forum doesn't really represent the masses.
On the other hand, Kayamath didn't keep with traditions either- for it is unheard of in India or anywhere else- the idea of fake marriage. Neither a traditional housewife nor an independent woman earning thousands would appreciate the fake track. I guess that's how Kayamath lost its TRPs. Anyway, no point in discussing it now as the show is wrapping up.

Kash it is not ture that audience will not accept shows which are about independent minded career women. In fact some of the most successful shows in Tamil are all about women empowerment. There is one which is about a woman contractor who struglles and makes it big in a male world. that show has been running for over six years now. I have watched some episodes of both Ballika Vadu as well as Bidai. These shows have very strong scripts and the dialogues are biting. I personally think that no show can survive without good scripts. Jodis cannot run the show on their own if they are to act out ridiculous plots. If this forum is any representation of the viewers I would say that the maxium particpation came during the first 10 months of the show, it started dwindling with every illogical track, the last nail being the leap track. Viewers are not fools who will keep trying to digesting the crap they keep dishing out in the pretext of keeping the show alive.
