Will any Indian Idol singer ever be that popular??

We have been through 3 complete seasons of Indian Idol and thid is the fourth season.
And what really shocks me is that not even one Indian Idol Winner/Singer out of all these seasons has been anywhere near popular to as compared to other singers who have established themselves.

Over all these years. till now, the only name that has shined out through a singing competition is Sunidhi Chauhan long long back through a show called "Meri Awaaz Suno" aired on Doordarshan channel. That time there was a need for good established singer in bollywood playback.

These are the current bands of Singers in bollywood:
1. All popular singers like K.K, Shaan, Sunidhi, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghosal, Sukhwinder Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Kailash Kher who sing big portion of all mainstream songs in bollywood and that too from big banners.
2. Relatively newer/ less popular singers like Mohit Chauhan, Benny Dayal, Vishal Dadlani, Rashid Ali, Mithoon, Javed Ali, Hard Kaur, Neeraj Shirdhar, Mika, Shruti Pathak, Suzy Q, Dominique Cerejo, and maybe some more. Even Farhan Akhtar sings now.
3. Singers from outside India who have made a mark on Indian Cinema and have become a indispensable part of it like Strings, Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Mustafa Zahid etc..
4. Hoards of Singers from reality shows like Abhijeet Sawant, Sandeep Acharya. Prashant Tamang, Qazi Tauqeer, Debojeet, etc etc etc who primarily get only one initial solo album as per their contract with average songs. And then out of them, only few get to sing say 1-2 songs a year at-most in bollywood cinemas.

So the thing is that all popular singers have become so on their own capability and they do not need any reality show to prove themselves.
Also there are so bundles of singers now that, singers of reality shows can be rated to be at the bottom of all the categories I have mentioned in terms of everything like earnings, fame, quantity of work etcc...

Even yesterday I was so bored with the episode as 90% of songs were the same ones which have been heard, sung and screwedup so many times in these shows over and over and over...

My fair opinion would be that singing reality shows must take a break now and buzz-off from all television channels.

Agreed with you that it is getting boring .....however, if you are bored please do not watch them.
The reality shows would not buzz off from the television channels until they continue to make money from the SMSs.
And also you do not realise that these singers (all contestants) get good money from stage shows. If Abhijeet Sawant was just a singer and not an Indian Idol, do you think anyone would call him for stage shows and Nach Baliye 4 and Jo Jeeta. These people are making decent money. Even if they do not become Sonu Nigam, they do earn well for themselves, which they would not be able to do otherwise.
Also you have failed to mention other names that have shined from the reality shows ..... Shreya Ghosal, Kunal Ganjawala (not sure of Kunal though) and heard even Amit Paul is singing for Luck by Chance.
When everyone is making money out of reality shows....should they buzz off just because you are getting bored?

That was just my opinion and if u still like these reel-ty shows, then u better put it as an opinion rather than be offensive. Otherwise keep ur likes to urself if u cant be positive.

Just came 2 know another strong singer(as believed by many) got voted out today..
That maybe coz Indian Idol is neither receiving that many votes nor making much money !!
Before, they used to rant about how many total votes they got in those 12 hours.
But now they dont reveal due to shame.

Yeah yeah, he got to sing one average sounding duet song in that movie titled "Pyar ki Dastaan".
Thats it, and you call it "singing for Luck by Chance",😆, huh ?

DEFINITELY NOT! and here's the reason why:

1. TRUE TALENT cannot be found so easily.. while these d###head judges keep saying that indian idol has a bunch of talent, the sad truth is that out of every 30 ppl only a few (less than 5 say) will have true talent..talent which NOT EVEN ONE PERSON can ignore or refuse to accept.

2.On top of all that, these judges give them the wrong picture of their performance.. forgiving poor diction, poor sur ,etc

3.INDIAN IDOL in particular has 4 FOOLISH judges, just as bad as voice of india judges.

4.The judges arent strict anymore.

5. Contestants are prefered if they:
look good
have a great personality
can jump around and make ugly faces
be one of those who "improve"
attempt difficult songs but flop

6. first come first serve: the big 3 are already established.. u have to wait..

it was kk, sonu and shaan... sonu is decreasing his body of work and shaan isnt getting good songs anymore, BUT javed ali, mohit chauhan and rashid ali are gaining in, so u'll have to wait another few years.

7. these big singers start making it in their 30's so we'll have to wait and see.

In my opinion unless the public choose a deserving winner an Indian Idol will never be able to sustain the popularity he/she gets after winning the title.Because in the long run its only talent that gets you to the top.Choosing a winner based on reasons other than singing might give the winner instant fame but it won't last.

I thought you were being negative. And trust me the day these producers stop making money from votes, they will stop the shows and venture into something more profitable. Well Amit was my favourite and i thought you should know that he is singing a duet...cause you dont even know that Shreya and Kunal are winners in SaReGaMA earlier.
I am not a big fan of these shows......I Dont watch VOI or Saregama...just used to watch Indian Idol ...but now got bored of it as well. But i do not think they should buzz off because you and me are getting bored. Budding singers get their platform and decent money so why not.
Have you seen Prajakta or Meenal Jain or Rahul Vaidya ...all doing well. They get a lot of stage shows.....I live in Kuwait and we even had Panna Gill and Neha Kakkar perform here (not the best in the lot but they do earn decently). We had many other Indian Idols here before as well.
I am sorry that i have hurt you ...but i stand by what i said.

No they will never.

There are too many playback singers already.
Bollywood overpowers the pop scene.
Even the pop scene in India lacks competition and genre diversity. It is the same old lovey dovey mess that no one stands out.

These shows are just for us to pass the time buy and get a rise out of the silliness of contestants, judges, junta and be informed of which new movies are coming and who will star in it. Otherwise they mean nothing.

Shreya Ghosal was a long time back. She came during the kid's SRGMP and was runner-up i think. Those days when SRGMP was hosted by Sonu NIgam and we had qualoty judges like Lata ji and OP Nayer ji and all.

I dont know much about Kunal to comment.

I dont think many will make it successful into playback singing.

Firstly there are too many shows churning out too many singers

Secondly, there is a lack in class and quality of these singers. Do you see another shreya, sunidhi or sonu among these people?

Thirdly, its going to become extremly difficult to break into the league of popular singers. Very few music directors give chance to the new comers. And those who do, look for exceptional talent.

Prajakta and Rahul Vaidya did some playback singing for shaadi no 1 but then again, the music director was Anu malik and after that hey kinda dissappeared.

Amanat ali sang a small part for VS in dostaana. but thats just a really small part.

Things have become so bad, that these people are looking into acting as a career! abhijeet sawant has a couple of movies coming out i think. recession ka time hai, cost cutting chal raha hai.. probably the best time to look into other careers and build the career

I have to agree with you.
Other than that, yes perhaps they may not become very popular but I think as long as they get decent recognition, at least they are able to provide better lives for themselves and their families. So, of course we see so many people interested in these shows. TV people of course also make a lot of money so they will continue producing these shows till they stop earning anything. For now, it is profitable for both, so they will continue, of course.
