Anil Kapoor was born in the slums?

my local channel was doing a segment of the movie and they mentioned about the protests etc and that even the actor who played the host was born and raised in slums. I was like say whaaaa? if this a ploy to get some international exposure or is it rly true?

afaik his dad was involved in movie industry and his older brother is a movie producer and has been for years. Is he just trying to cash in on some publicity in international market or is his really rags to riches story?

yes he did , coz I remember watching jeena isi ka naam hai hosted by farooq sheikh and anil kapoor was the guest and they showed his past and where he lived etc . He did live in the lower areas of chembur and it was shown.

Well! Anil Kapoor didn't exactly live in the slums but yes! he lived in a lower middle class area in Chembur.

Raj Kapoor's family helped Anil's father, Surinder Kapoor establish in the industry. Surinder Kapoor was Geeta Bali's Manager.

It was said that Anil Kapoor was very hurt and disappointed when Raj Kapoor refused to meet him or give him a role in his film or to put a nice word for him. Then he worked with Mani Ratnam in a Kannada film. Then moved to Hindi all by his hard work. Rishi Kapoor and him used to have constant tiffs because they were vying for same roles at one point.

It was only in mid 80s that he started earning good money and could afford to move to the area where they live today.

ya as Maya_M said it wasn't a slum......he used to live in a chawl in Chembur & has struggled to make it big in Bollywood......👏
