When Deepika was the special guest, Chang said something about being lucky because he had four eyes to ogle at both Sonali and Deepika

then Javed A. said something like "first of all you don't even have full two eyes" or something to that affect..

THAT WAS TOTALLY UNNECESSARY AND EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE..

imagine someone making a comment like that on a show like American Idol. OMG that would make headline all over the world..

why do desis always make very un-PC jokes about sensitive issues like race/appearance etc.

First of all, NO i don't watch those lame and crude desi comedy shows. They make me cringe as the so called jokes are juvenile and repetitive and unfunny..

Secondly just because they make un PC and racist jokes in plenty does not excuse Javed's preposterous comment..

Thirdly, if Simon makes a lame and offensive comment about an Asian contestant's eye size like Javed A did then that would make headline news. He would then have to apologize formally. *rolleyes* Or an Indian contestant's skin color etc etc

So, you think it is alright to make racist comments? You see nothing wrong in making fun of Asian eyes? Gosh..

Are we still in 2009?

first of all there is no need to shout..

and so what if Chang doesn't mind, I am sure there were quite a few people in the audience who are of similar racial/facial makeup.. i am sure a lot of them took offense..also as a person who grew up in a multi cultural society where people respected each other, i found it offensive..because if someone makes a comment like that at school or at their workplace where i come from, there will be severe repucusions

So using your logic, if someone on the show makes a very offensive comment about some aspect of Hussain that is directly related to his religion, it is perrrrrfectly okay as long as Hussain doesn't get offended

I just don't get the blase blase attitude that a lot of desis have regarding sensitive issues like race, disability, body types etc.. and yet they are easily offended when someone says or does anything very minor (in comparison) about India or other aspect of desiness.. some will even go out and start burning effigies..

Hey, that day, JA was making totally lopsided remarks. I can't remember them off the top of my head, but when I was watching with my family, we all thought that the man had finally lost his mind. Age finally hit him or Anu Malik got to him, I don't know, but he was talking nonsense that day. His remark to Chang wasn't funny, it had a sense of ... I don't want to say bitterness, but nothing else comes to mind. He was attempting to be funny, in his, "give a serious look while I attempt a joke" attitude, but his joke backfired. Chang's response was a forced smile, so I thought. I felt like Chang's line was scripted and JA was just butting in at a moment that it was not needed.

As far as AI goes, you're right, that would've made headlines. Simon comment's on personal appearance but doesn't generalize to a whole race (at least on air he doesn't), regardless, those people deserve those comments, dear lord, those crazy auditioners in AI.

Edit: Oh yeah, another of JA's comments, this one bothered me more. His response to Kapil singing to the two ladies was also odd. I can't remember his exact words, but it was something along the lines of "good thing you were looking in the ladies' eyes and not the male judges" ... what was he hinting at there? homosexuality? gay behavior? I wanted to smack him across the head, Kapil bowed out with a humble thank you, he probably left thinking "buddha satya gaya hai". 😆

firstly, why do u say desi desi n not indian shows. maybe sum1 mite get offended. v never know who gets offended wid wht statement.

secondly, javed akhtar did not mean tht. it was told as a joke n taken as a joke. so dear u can chill down. the king stills remembers whn prashant tamang was insulted in sum radio show javed fully supported him.

thirdly, why do connect this wid hussain's religion. even alisha used 2 call chang chingu mingu. is tht also offensive.

lastly, sourabhee said she votes 4 chang (during a poll within the contestants on who looks hotter hussain or chang) becoz she n chang have the same kinda eyes i.e., small eyes. so is it perfectly alright if sourabhee says it juzz bcoz she looks like tht too.

When Javed A commented that Chang does not even have two good eyes, I interpreted that because he has glasses, he does not have two good eyes to look at pretty gals.Maybe the remark should be interpreted as above and everyone just chill.

Simon gets away with what he say in AI since he speaks with a Brit accent. Americans love people with Brit accent, to them it comes loaded with sophistication and erudition. And against a backdrop of Paula Abdul and Randy (the Dawg) his comments seem like coming from the Bard himself. Consider yourself lucky that II and other shows have judges who understand music. I doubt if the AI judges can talk basic music language.
