Wishing Hrithik Roshan a very happy Birthday
By Bollywood Hungama News Network, January 10, 2009 - 08:26 IST
Friends... what's up with this month! Practically most of the stars (read 'superstars') have ascended from the heavens to be one amongst us and shine (quite literally) in Bollywood! Don't believe us? Then, well, here's the sample list: Right from the start of the year, one has witnessed the birthdays of legendary actors like Bipasha Basu, Vidya Balan, Koena Mitra, Irrfan Khan, Farhan Akhtar...to name a few! Requesting you all to hold your breath as we announce the name of today's Birthday Boy...it is none other than Hrithik Roshan!
Not many know that this dude's debut was actually as a child artist in the film Aasha, when he was merely six years old! Later on, he went onto play minuscule but prominent roles in Aap Ke Deewane and Bhagwan Dada. It's only after that he went onto assist his director father in the productions of Karan Arjun and Koyla; films that went onto become not just milestone but also landmark films. Hrithik made his full fledged debut with the smash hit Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai, a film that gave the world India's answer to the likes not just the dancing tornado Michael Jackson but also the acting legends Robert DeNiro, Marlon Brando and others. Hrithik was indeed India's first ever all-in-one superstar, whose mere name's enough for any film to see everyone laughing their way to the Swiss Bank, nonetheless
Hrithik Roshan, who turned 35 on January 10, celebrated the occasion doing what he likes best: dancing - that too with Barbara Mori for a number choreographed by old friend Farah Khan.
Sighed Hrithik, "What more can I wish for? This birthday I can only wish for my wife Sussanne to be with me all my life. What else? I have everything else.
"So I don't need any other gifts except lots of love from everyone. The audience and fans have showered me with much more love than I deserve. A warm hug means more to me than anything that money can buy. I know my phone is going to be very busy on my birthday. That's the most special thing that happens on this day every year."
A special guest at Hrithik's birthday party was his Kites co-star, Mexican actress Barbara Mori.
While shooting a critical sequence in Santa Fe, Barbara made her shy co-star Hrithik discard his desi inhibitions to express love in one of its natural manifestations - the kiss.
After Dhoom 2 and the absolutely aesthetic kiss with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik will be seen doing a number of lip-locks with Barbara in his next release, the much-anticipated Kites.
When asked about it, Hrithik is amused.
"Why are we even talking about kissing? Is that such a big deal? Hasn't our cinema grown up? Yes, there're kissing scenes in the film. But nothing to make me squirm. In fact, I'd be more than happy and completely comfortable watching those kissing scenes with my wife, son and parents when the film is released."
On the need to look at lip-locking in Bollywood rationally Hrithik argues, "Kites is a love story. It's about people in love. And what do people in love do to express their mutual feelings? In fact, it was Barbara Mori who made me realise how silly we look on screen while shying away from expressing love naturally."
This happened while Hrithik and Barbara were shooting a tough and dangerous action sequence in Santa Fe. "We were both supposed to jump off from a rooftop at an impossible height. Before we did so our director Anurag Basu suggested I kiss Barbara since we were doing something death-defying and dangerous and potentially lethal.
"I reached out and kissed her on the cheeks. Barbara turned around to ask why I had kissed her on the cheek. 'Given the same situation with your real-life wife Sussanne, would you kiss her on the cheek?'
"I was floored by her logic."
The take was repeated. "And this time I kissed her the way real-life couples would in the situation - on the lips," says Hrithik.
