Hollywood, here i come! Anil Kapoor in Slumdog Millionaire

Anil Kapoor is preparing to attend the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA PS: And a speech is in order too

Anil Kapoor is bubbling with joy. Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire (in which Kapoor plays a quizmaster) has been nominated for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

While lead actor Dev Patel has been nominated in the Outstanding Performance By A Male Actor In A Supporting Role category, Anil has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Performance By An Ensemble Cast In A Motion Picture.

Anil's extremely excited about the nomination and will fly to Los Angeles with wife Sunita for the ceremony on January 22. The actor has been rehearsing his speech and is in talks with designers on what he will wear to the event.

Says a source, "It's been Anil's dream to go up on stage and give a speech in front of Hollywood hotshots. He even plans to address stars like Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman during his speech in a lighter vein."

Bigger than Globes

The actor confirms, "Sunita and I will be attending the SAG award ceremony. There's a premiere in Mumbai on the 23rd, so I will be flying back immediately after that. The SAG is the most prestigious acting awards and Slumdog has got nominated for an ensemble star cast.

In fact, Danny says it's bigger than the Golden Globe awards too because while the Golden Globe has everything from music to direction for the SAG, it's only acting. The ceremony is attended by Hollywood peers and the nominations are decided by thousands of actors all who are members of the Acting Guild."

When asked about his speech, Kapoor laughs, "My speeches are always impromptu, and instinctive from the heart. The awards should go to the children they are superb in the film." About his togs, he is still not clear, "I will wear a formal western suit but I haven't finalised anything as yet."

Anil adds that he first heard about the SAG nomination from his son Harsh. "Harsh came to know first. Later Shekhar (Kapoor) and Danny explained the significance of the awards to me.

Shabana (Azmi) tells me that I still haven't realised how big it is. So for me, I am still being educated about the film. There are certain films, which are very special to an actor because they have their own journey; for me Slumdog is one such film getting worldwide recognition is something else."
