Taking the fall:
Mona Wasu
The actress was enacting a scene in which she had to speed down a steep slope at Film City, Goregaon (East) on a bicycle when she lost control of the racing bike and crashed into the associate director on the show leaving him with a swollen cheekbone.
Says Rama, a crewmember who witnessed the mishap, "The roads at Film City are quite bumpy and steep. Mona madam was cycling down when she lost control and fell."
Blame the bike
The actress was in tears after the fall and complained of searing pain and couldn't move for nearly half-an hour. She was rushed to the nearby clinic where she was attended to and given painkillers.
Wasu attributes her fall to the awkward seat of the bicycle she was riding, "The seat was so high that my feet couldn't reach the pedals. While coming down the slope, I picked up a great speed and I couldn't control the pedals and I was scared to apply the brakes as I thought that the cycle might just topple over."
Back on track
However, an unfazed Wasu resumed her regular shooting schedule after a while. Says the producer Radhika Kumar, "Fortunately, it wasn't serious and they could resume shooting. But I must say that Mona is quite brave and although she's limping during the scenes she made extra efforts so that it doesn't come across."
Adds Wasu, "I had to dab on a lot of makeup as my entire face was swollen. I'm happy that I could finish the portions we were supposed to do in spite of the fall."
Rescuer turns victim
When the actress failed to apply her brakes and started screaming for help, associate director Sunand Baranwal tried to grip the bike to bring it to a halt. Instead he collided with the bike before it came to a halt; in the process he injured his cheekbone and eye.
Says Baranwal, "I wanted to save her but instead got hurt — her forehead banged with my under eye area and I fainted out of pain. I don't know who lifted me and then treated me with ice packs. It's still hurting but that hasn't stopped us from shooting."
No medical help
The actress has no plans of seeking advice from any doctor. Says Wasu, "It's a mishap and now the pain is spreading all over my face. My entire body is aching. I've a swollen left eye, bruised arms and sprained ankle. The pain is going to stay for a few days as I had a bad fall. I'm taking painkillers and have no plans to visit the doctor. I should be fine in a few days."
