Fans taunt Big B on his blog

Mumbai (PTI): Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has blasted a section of media for presenting his act of keeping a gun under his pillow as one of ridicule, mirth and the one that reflected fear on his part.

"It is a pity that the "intellectual media" portrays the incident of the gun under my pillow as one of ridicule and mirth. Of one that reflects a fear on my part and that makes an absurd simile with my characters on screen and that of the real," Bachchan wrote on his blog.

It is a shame that the mettle of my comment was not put across in the context of its entirety, thereby bisecting the thought and making it weak, he said. The act of pulling out my revolver is a symbolic metaphor, a figure of speech, to demonstrate my complete loss of faith in the system and in the governance, in providing me, a citizen of India, with my rightful sense of security, he said.

Bachchan said that respondents on his blog had taunted and subjected him to mockery and derision. He said his critics in the cyberworld had written about what they would have done had they been in his place.

"I keep my security according to my own assessment of my vulnerability. When you will wear my shoes, and I do hope that you do one day, you shall also be subjected to the kind of vulnerability that I and many others like me face each day. Perhaps then you would be better placed to appreciate the hollowness of your accusation," he said.

"Last night, as the events of the terror attack unfolded in front of me I did something for the first time and one that I hoped never ever to be in a situation to do. Before retiring for the night, I pulled out my licensed .32 revolver, loaded it and put it under my pillow. For a very disturbed sleep," Bachchan had written on Thursday.

It's a scary time and he took precautions to keep his family and himself safe. I don't think he should be taunted and ridiculed.

I completley agree with you.... media just looks for reasons to make a small precaution situation...a BIG deal

honestly though, why would he write something like that on his blog? im sure that he knows that millions of people read it. and he made himself look like an idiot. its not like the terrorists are gonna go to the Bachchan house...while the city of Mumbai is in terror, hes making it about himself and his family and that is ridiculous. instead of mourning the dead and paying tribute to the officers and civil servants who passed, hes talking about sleeping w/ a gun. i mean for a man in his mid sixties, hes not smart. he KNOWS people are going to read his blog and comment...and the press will talk about it....so why write it in the first place?!
seriously, i think he should just be quiet. his family is constantly scrutinized for stupid comments they make (with the exception of Shweta and Abhishek-they seem normal)...and so they should just shut up.

He is also just like you and me. At the end it is natural for him to fear like a common man. May be he should try to be like that pseudo-secularist actor who manipulates people through his blogs.

I don't see anything wrong with what Big B did...anybody would get scared at that time...if a common man had done the same thing what Big B did then would ppl laugh at him instead they would felt sorry for him..i agree he had security outside his house but at such times u won't trust anyone...

he said it was a METAPHOR..symbolic to the lack of security in ones home....

Although i don't really buy that but it was quite understandable what he meant...He should have made the 'metaphor' more clear. The way he wrote it did seem like it was done in actuality....
He's right that we don't know the position he's in...but at he same time he doesn't know the position of the common man either. If he, someone with massve security, is not feeling secured, then what about those poor people sleeping out on the streets? Are they not MORE vulnerable?
I know he was trying to make a point and reach out to the youth to make a difference, but his approach should've been a bit different. His approach was self-absorbed.
BY the way, didn't he say he doesn't care if he's ridiculed before making the gun statement? So, what's the matter? why is there a problem now? he knew his statement was very controversial.

oh for eff sake! what is happening to this world

if anyone actually bothered to read the whole blog entry they would have got the gist of the comment

the paragraphs preceding the gun comment had him make a point that unless the authorities/powers to be do something about the situation and prevent it from happening in the future no one's safe..

That was what he meant and I'm far from being an Einstein and I got it..

Like srsly.. do Indian media need everything to be explained and written in 5th grade English for them to understand the essence of a statement someone's trying to make...

and its hilarious how everyone chose to ignore all the eye opening things he said in the blog entry and only chose to read the last sentence and then made their whole point about the entire blog...

I think Big B should stop writing blogs, it appears as if he is too articulate for the general populace..

And no matter how much some of us try to talk sense into people, it's just not going to work.
