Sachin was supposed to act in just one film

He did his first film at the age of four — a Marathi movie called Aa Majhe Marg Ekla.

"Raja Paranjape gave me my first break. My mother had asked me to only do this one film but when she saw me get the National Award, which Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave me (Panditji broke protocol, took me in his lap and gave me the rose from his sherwani), my mother changed her mind. My first movie as an adult was Geet Gaata Chal in 1975. In between these, I did many films as a child artiste."

Shammi Kapoor has always been his idol

Sachin's most memorable film is Brahmachari, which had his idol Shammi Kapoor in it. Says Sachin, "I was working with my idol and it was a great pleasure. We still have a fantastic rapport. On Nach Baliye, I wanted to do a Shammi Kapoor song but that has not been allotted to us yet."
