Definitely composer outweigh singer. If songs has to composed of provide lyrics different composer will compose different way. Where as for the given song singers might sang it differently but the tune wont change that much. Composer puts lots of effort and creativity( not applicable to Pritam) to define tune and singer just have to go with whatever he or she is asked to do. I know singer does enahance with the rendition but overall the product shaped more like what composer wants.

Just like the world can't go on without a man AND a woman, a song cannot become successful without a true composer and a superb singer.

However, if you just think about Bollywood, there are a lot more things that need to be accounted for in order to determine whether the song will be successful, i.e. movie, production banner, music video, which actor/actress the song is pictured on, etc.

Wow ! Singing one line at a time and recording 😆.
Yes also there are a lot of softwares to help the singers.
But similarly there are softwares to help the composers of music too.
What the public gets is the final product and if the composition is good enough, any reasonable singer will do.
For pop songs in most countries the record sales depend on who the singer is, so long as the songs are reasonable the young kids will buy it.
Indian music industry is more complicted and hugely dependent on Bollywood. Some good singers out of work and good MDs having nothing much to do.

ReemAnshu is right about the one line at a time recording - I have heard the same thing from established singers and composers too. Regarding the s/w, yes that is also there and it is getting better with time that we may not need very talented composers anymore in the future. If it is good or not, I dont know...
What Summer says about the Indian music industry is right. The producers would be going after big name banners so that it will add more bites to their marketing. Therefore many new comers who have potential can go unnoticed forever or for a very long time. The same goes for a singer too.

Wow, you said what I was going to say - that a composer and a singer are correlated or interdependent - one cannot exist without the other. A good song needs both ingredients - a very good composition and a very good voice. Since the song is the identity for both the composer and the singer, listeners attach their fondness for the song to its tone (composer) and its voice (singer). This explains why some songs when sung in both male and female voices (not duet, but solo in both gender voices), one might outweigh the other and might get way more popular.

I think there are Super Composers and Super Singers. Composing has taken giant steps and advanced due to the introduction of more musical instruments and other electronic devices. However, the human voice can never be replaced.

Shankarji is a good composer and singer also of classicals.
Generally to promote a song the looks of the singers also helps in the promotions.
In the west they look at a Singer's marketability as well.
Eg. Asma is still in the competition eventhough better singers have been eliminated.
