Soooo I thought I'd start an FF here 😃 mostly revolving around Gunjan and Samrat. I usually write in the FF section. I used to write DMG FF's... but not anymore, now it's stories that don't revolve around TV shows... until now, it's MJHT!

Now, I'm writing this story because I don't really believe (I could be wrong) that anyone here really understands what goes through Gunjan's head and I hope this story will perhaps give a better understanding of how she deals with it. I do hope that everyone likes it and that no one gets offended!!

Phobia

Introduction:

Samrat was a psychology major. He loved the way the human mind cast its wonders on the way we thought. He loved how he could trick almost anyone into doing what he wanted them to do without them knowing that he was doing it for his benefit rather than theirs. He loved how he could understand things about people that didn't understand things about themselves. He loved how he could play around with people's minds... ah! The bliss of the study of the mind!

But... who knew the cool guy was a master of minds? He was tough on the outside, girls swarming aroung him... always the hottest topic in school. And c'mon, basketball champions don't really like studying, do they?

"Hey Samrat, darling!!!" A petite girl dressed in what looked like a towel came hobbling towards him, eager to see him. She felt a bit out of place in the library. Books didn't suit her fancy, really.

"Oh, shit, crap... not her!" He growled under his breath. "Oh hey Diya darling! Have a seat." He directed her to the chair across him. There was no way he wanted to be sitting next to her.

"Oh I missed you so much! Where were you? Tum yaha kya kar rahe the? Books? Seriously Samrat! You have a game in an hour! You should be practicing... with the BALL, not the book." She grabbed the book out of his hand and slammed it shut.

"Pfft. Don't worry about my game, I always win, regardless of how much I practice or not. Oh and same things with my exams," he winked. He kept the fake smile plastered on his face despite the lack of enjoyment in her company. He wanted that book back! He was in the middle of an extremely interesting chapter: How to Deal with a Woman's Mind.

"So, Diya, aren't you cheerleading for the game today?" Samrat asked.

"Of course I am! Diya ke baghair, kuch kaise ho sakta hai!"

"Hahha, true that. I really think you should go ahead and warm up you know. I want to see a brilliant performance," he winked again.

"Omg! I love you Samrat. You're so smart! I'll see you in a whileeee," she quickly got up, gave him a quick hug and left.

"Phew... now my book..."

...

"Nahi, Di, nahi, nahi, nahi! Muhje NAHI jaana hai!" Gunjan stomped her foot. Her sister, Nupur had sent in one of Gunjan's poems into a poetry contest and now... she won, and not just WON, she had to personally go to the award ceremony, recite the poem to a whole bunch of people and collect her prize. And Gunjan refused. There was no way in heaven, no wait, on earth, anything would convince her to go.

"Gunjan! Yaar! Tum hamesha mere khushi par paani pher deti ho! Dekho na, itna acha mauka mila tuhme, apne shairi ko dunya ke saamne laane ka, likin tum! Uffffff!"

"Di! You know I can't... I can't do it! I can't go in front of a million people and talk. It's so scary!!"

"Acha baba! Pata nahi kyun scary wary hoti hai tu... Chal chor," Nupur sulked. "Mood kharab kar diya. Boring..." Nupur rested herself, with her palm placed under her chin, on Gunjan's bed.

"Di!! Stop blackmailing me! You know I can't do it!"

"Mumbai mein kya kaare gi tu? Waha kitne saare log hote hai..."

"I don't wanna think about it," Gunjan huffed away in anger.

.....

That night, Gunjan lay awake in bed thinking about the evening. Sure she wanted the prize, but she was unwilling to present herself to an audience of hundreds. It was a haunting fear that took over her everytime she was faced with the situation. Why? Why was she so afraid she didn't know. Ever since she was a child, she was the quiet one and her sister, Nupur. She could start conversations with ease and confidence. Why couldn't, she, Gunjan, strike a conversation the way her sister could? She had no answers for herself.

But it hurt. It gave her pain. Everyone underestimated her talent, made her feel low. It stripped her confidence and self-esteem. She never felt she could do anything. Why couldn't anyone understand her? She felt a tear slip down her cheek. Perhaps Mumbai would get her used to people, and... let go of the phobia... her phobia of people, society, failure... and pain.

Part 1:

"Diya beta!!! Uday!! Tum log kaha ho bhai??" their father shouted. "I should've never gotten such a large house. No one seems to be able to hear me despite the booming effect in my voice. DIYA!"

Diya hurridly tumbled down the stairs
"Huh? Huh? Papa?" Diya said, through the mask of hair that was over her face.

"HAAN! Main, Papa! Bhool gaye kya?"

"Ufff Papa! Aap bhi na! Diya sau rahi thi!"

"It's okay Princess Di!" Uday said, with that familiar goof ball grin of his. "Papa wants to tell us something important, haina?"

"Yes. Your cousins from Morena are coming today to stay with us! Be ready to receive them!" And before any of his kids could say a word, he left.

"WHAT?? Those two weirdos? OMG! What were their weird names? Omigosh!! They smelled like the forest, ughh!! I hope they don't go to our college! How infuritating!! UDAY!?" Diya rambled.

"What? Gunjan was nice. She gave me candy," Uday shrugged.

"SHUT UP!" Diya banged her foot on the ground. "Ouch!" Well, sometimes high heels do help in times of anger! Diya was anyhow pissed from the game yesterday. Sure Samrat had won, but he hadn't given her a single glance, neither during the game, or after! His nerve! How dare he ignore THE Diya! And now, her soooo uncool cousins from some unfashionable town were coming to HER place.

"Relax, Di!" Uday said, placing his hand on his sister's shoulder. "Kuch plan banate, you know, to get rid of them... Even though I love Gunjan."

"KYA?"

"Her candy, I mean."

"Whatever."

...

"So it's all set. JUST IGNORE THEM OKAY?" Diya shouted at her gang, who all seemed busy. "Are you guys listening?"

"Yes, yes of courseeee, Diya baby!" Angie drawled. "We ignore them totally! By the way, baby, yeh idea kisne diya tuhme?"

"Samrat of course..." Diya said, a dreamy look on her face.

"Oooooo, where is he by the way? Tum usse ghussa nahi ho?"

"Not anymore! He gave me such a brilliant idea!"

"Samrat always gives brilliant ideas, Samrat is... SAMRAT after all!" Samrat arrogantly stated, joining the group. Everyone cheered on for him.

"Thank you, thank you, waise, Uday, I was wondering how your cousins look," Samrat asked Uday, knowing that he was a duffer. "You know, so we know who to ignore," he then added, slyly.

Uday shoved his hands into his pockets and pulled out a leather wallet. He opened it and shoved it under Samrat's nose.

"This is... Gunjan and me," he blushed.

"Stupid duffer. How old is this picture?" Samrat said, with teeth grinded.

"Kuch hi saalo purana picture hai, Gunjan is lookin cute, haina?" He blushed and battered his eyelashes.

"Doing some serious crushing, aren't you, bro?" Samrat said with cocked eyebrows.

"I liked the mango candy she gave me! Tum log bhi na..."

...

"Di, I'm scared! Look how many people there are lined up on the street! And they all look so weird! Di! Muhje waapis ghaar jaana hai!"

"Chup! Main hoon na tuhmare saath!" Nupur scolded.

Gunjan sighed. Nupur's favorite line. She always said that to Gunjan. But frankly, it did not soothe her condition. Nupur was a 1 out of a hundred. Yes, having Nupur by her side everywhere they went calmed Gunjan a bit, as the thought of being alone freaked her out, but then it made her dependent on her sister. They'd eventually be seperated one day, how was Gunjan going to deal with people on her own when her sister got married and had her own life?

As they approached the large mansion, Gunjan's heart pounded hard. She remembered how mean her cousin, Diya was the last time they visited. She'd pulled her by her pony, didn't let her play with the barbie dolls... made fun of her in front of her posh friends, and Gunjan had cried. Cried a lot and told her father that she was never coming back.

But alas, one things led to another, and now she had chosen to come back. No, destiny was not to be blamed. Gunjan chose to come, she could've stayed back in Morena and studied in some little college...

But perhaps her curiousity led her to the city. Perhaps she'd have more... freedom? Perhaps she'd be able to open up. Because being shy made her feel like she was stuck within herself, unable to express anything how much ever she wished to. She was a pressure cooker of talents waiting to explode, but with the lack of enthusiasm and confidence, it couldn't happen.

The taxi cab stopped in front of the house... where, Gunjan noticed, a girl and a boy, who she identified as Uday, stood. The girl had a look of annoyance on her face as she tapped the ground with her heels, while the boy was grinning goofy. Gunjan couldn't help laughing at him.

"He's so silly, di," Gunjan giggled.

"Haan, aur woh dekho, Diya ki bachi ko, kharoos lagti hai," Nupur said, scrunching her nose.

"Hey guys!" Uday waved excitedly only to get slapped by Diya.

"Hii!!" Nupur waved back, jumping out of the taxi while Gunjan merely smiled shyly.

"Hi," said Diya, flatly as she turned to go back into the house, disappearing into one of the rooms.

"Come in, come in. Andhar ayye!" Uday said, picking up their luggage and dragging it into the house. "Tum logo ka room, udhar!" He pointed to what seemed like a random location to Gunjan. "By the way, tuhmare pass woh mango candies hai abhi tak?"

"Kya? Mango candy?" Gunjan asked, confused.

"Haan, woh... acha choro, candy ke baare mein baad mein baat kaarenge. Aaj hai na, Diya aur main aur Samrat, aur Annie, aur Ben, aur kaun kaun... pata nahi... sab ne tuhmare liya party rakhi hai haan." He flashed another goofy grin.

"Ohhh Party! Achi baat hai!!!" Nupur replied excitedly.

"Yeah, the driver will pick you up, shaam ko."

Poor girls... had no idea what they would face soon...

I know it's short... But my laptop's charger broke and I have to wait for the new one (thank god I have warrenty on that thing) so I have to use my sister's laptop... grrr... SaJan will meet soon and yes there will be a bit of MayUr 😃.

Part 3:

"Um, Di?" Gunjan finally spoke. They were seated in the Mercedes and neither had spoken a word through out the journey. "Muhje daar lagra hai."

"Chup. Har waqt darti rehti ho tum..." Nupur said, admiring the bright lights in the dark and the whiz of cars out of the window. "Main hoon na tuhmare saath. Tum akele thori na ho!"

Gunjan sat quietly. What if there were going to be a lot of people? Why couldn't Diya invite everyone over to their HUGE house instead of hosting the party elsewhere? What was the huge mansion FOR anyways if you weren't going to use it? Uday said it was a small party... so perhaps there would only be a few people. No biggie, thought Gunjan. She'd hide herself in some far away corner and keep to herself rather than mingle with anyone. That was her sister's hobby. Not hers.

The driver halted the car and the two sisters strode out. Gunjan's nervousness grew. An unfamiliar place, unfamiliar people... oh no! She should've never came!

"Chal chal! Sab hamara intezaar kar rahe honge! After all, party hamare liya rakhe gaye thi hehehe!" Nupur giggled. "How do I look?"

"As usual, beautiful, Di."

They opened the door. Gunjan was taken away by suprise. It was dark. The music was loud. She wanted to go back and run out!

"Wow, kya party hai, yaar!" Nupur gushed. She was obviously excited to see new surroundings. "Likin yeh Diya ki bachi kaha hai? Scuze me?" She tapped someone on the shoulder.

"What?" the someone replied, not so happy that a shabby looking girl in shalwar kameez had distrupted her chat.

"Um, tum Diya ko jaanti ho?"

"Of course! Jeezzzzzzz, who DOESN'T know the DIYA!? Pagal ho kya?" she rudely stated and turned back around.

"Weird people..." Gunjan whispered.

Zuzu!!!
Aaaaah, I'm SO elated to see you writing about Samrat-Gunjan!
The characterizations are awesome, yaar! I'm loving how Samrat hates Diya's presence so much already...The "towel
descriptor was perfect! LOL!
Poor Gunjan - Loved how she is so adamant about not going to the ceremony...But at the same time, I feel so bad for her. I have a feeling Samrat is going to help her out...Once he finishes reading that chapter on How to Deal with a Woman's Mind, that is! 😃
Keep on writing, this is awesome, yaar! Can't wait for the next update!
