My review of Roadside Romeo

So I saw it guys…and I LOVED it. Like seriously, it was one of the cutest movies of the year. Yes, its somewhat kiddish, but in a way that even the general audience will get a kick outta it. The filmi references, the witty humor, the dog puns, the strong characters, and last but not least, the ROMANCE will keep you rooted to your seat. I mean, in most of the movie, it was the parents who were laughing more than the kids, haha.
The movie starts out sorta slow, but builds as it goes along. The first half establishes the characters and situations, while the second half really picks up. The music, while not a chartbuster, really compliments the situations. All the songs are lovable and find a place in your heart. The ones that really stand out are the title track, Cool Cool, and Choo Lena.
In this movie, the side characters only strengthen the plot and add to the humor, rather than take away from the focus. Each and every character is well sketched with a distinct personality.
The cat mini, Guru, the filmi interval, and even English speaking dog, put you in splits.
The voices breathe life into these animated characters, and you find yourself laughing with dogs and cats.
Now onto the main cast.
Javed Jaffrey is excellent. His brilliance shows no bound, as he clearly steals the show with his dialogues and voice modulation. Charlie Anna is the villain that you will be repulsed by, yet learn to adore. He gets a 11/10 from me!
Saif and Kareena were Romeo and Laila, or Romeo and Laila were Saif and Kareena. I cant tell. I remember Jugal saying that the way the dogs were sketched was based on saif and kareena's body language while dubbing, and the eyes especially were modeled after the two. So while you have this really strong presence of the two stars, it only helps to enhance the feel of the characters, because the voices flow beautifully. Saif does a fantastic job! His voice covered a diverse pitch scale. He was high pitched in some portions and deep in others. All in all, the "cool" factor that one associates with Saif shines through in Romeo, making him an extremely likable character. Laila is the spice of the movie. She comes in moments and sizzles in her portions (wow, did I just say that for an animated dog?) Kareena was the perfect fit for Laila as well. Oozing with confidence, a true diva, sexy, sensual, yet very cute in some moments. And together, the two are magic. Its hilarious, but Saif and Kareena share more chemistry here then all of tashan put together, lolz.
Their voices just gel so well, and the chemistry is sizzling. Saif gets a perfect 10/10, and while Kareena doesn't have as much scope as the rest of the cast, she nails whatever she's given 9/10.
Ofcourse there are downsides. In some portions, the animation looks SLIGHTLY weaker than the Hollywood movies. And also, another review mentioned that the lack of humans is noticeable. While I didn't notice it at first, it didn't jolt me a little when a human IS shown in the movie. So, just a slight point that could have been fixed, but still, it doesn't take away the fact that this was an extremely well made film, and the efforts shine through.
My favorite points:
All of Romeo and Laila's scenes (magic!)
When mini the cat pretends to be Laila on a date with Charlie Anna
The climax
All the filmi references keep on coming and you just have to catch them all. Sometimes they're not as blatant, for instance, "bhaag Arjun bhaag", and the KKHH spoof with the lil mouse, haha!
So yeah, its not a perfect film, but all in all, a GREAT attempt and a completely different kind of cinema and I must say, a true success. Kudos to the entire cast! I really hope that people give this movie a fair chance. Everyone has a kid inside of em. It doesn't hurt to awaken that kid once in a while. Its not a movie that will change ur life or teach you a lesson. But it is a film that may just put a smile on your face

My kids had a great time...laughing at the silly jokes...so it was definitely a paisa vasool for me...my 5 years' giggles every time Charlie anna said "room me aao" were like the master card ad says...priceless!😆
for me...I liked some of the jokes and the way they used some filmi cliches....the voice that stood out for me was most defintely Javed Jafri as charlie anna...he did a brilliant job!!! overall a good attempt and a great step for Bollywood animation films!

I'm ecstatic to hear that your kids enjoyed hte movie Tally Ho! And even you seemed to like it and consider it a positive step for hindi cinema in terms of animation. But I'm afraid with the way things are going, Roadside Romeo may not be succesful. So far its gotten a poor opening. I really hope that word of mouth spreads and more ppl go out to support this movie, or just go out with their kids and have a great time!

The amount of effort and work that went into this movie deserves so much more than its getting. Its the popular perception that since its animation, its just for the kids and the parents will dose off or something, but that's not the case. Its a movie where even the parents have a laugh or two, especially and the filmi jokes.

I am looking forward to this one. Charlie Anna sounds interesting and so does the other two characters. This is first for India and we need to support animation so that in future we get to see more Indian versions like this.
