Yuvraaj Malhotra who plays Shaurya in Waaris, says he was given the boot after fighting with a unit hand but the producer, Smriti Irani's company, says he's welcome back.
So what's the deal?
We asked Yuvraaj why he was no longer in the Sony serial and he said: "The producers are not in favour of me and never wanted me to do the show," he, "but since I had a good relationship with the channel I was given a role."
Yuvraaj earlier acted in Betiyaan, which he also left. "I had done it for a year and I got bored," he explained, "I told the channel there was nothing interesting for me to do on that show."
He says they "were fine with my leaving. When they received the proposal for Waaris they told the production house that they would prefer me in the role of Shaurya."
But Smriti's production house, he claims, "never wanted me. They took me on because of the channel's insistence but they did not really want me."
What happened earlier this week, he added, was planned. "They sent over someone from the unit who began a quarrel with me for no reason and he hit me first."
Now he said it was up to the serial to take the next step. "They should either replace me or change the track. They're saying I'm not allowed to shoot because I'm not a part of the association."
Meet, from Smriti's production house said, Yuvraaj was kicking up a fuss over nothing.
"We cannot comment on this because the federation is looking into the matter, but Smriti is keeping her cool on this."
"We have no problem with Yuvraaj and if we replace him that will be bad for the show since the audience is familiar with his character," she said, "it is true that he was recommended by the channel but we have always felt him right for the role."
If he secured permission from the federation, she said, he would be back.
So will he? Watch this space!
