Shantanu & Nikhil define 'Serenity' with Deepika Padukone 17 Oct 2008, 1053 hrs IST, CHARU AMAR
Day 2 of the India Fashion Week had already hit the tempo when Bollywood beauties Sameera Reddy and Minissha Lamba walked the ramp for Falguni & Shane Peacock. And what added cherry on the cake was the world's sexiest woman, Deepika Padukone, walking the ramp for designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil.
Inspiration: The collection, aptly named 'Serenity,' took a cue from the barren landscape of Ladakh. It strove to give an ode to the topography of the lunar rock and mountain formations. When global warming and confused weather patterns were the buzz of the hour, this collection went beyond mere fashion in its feel and aesthetics.
Top 4 trends: 1. Strong presence of dramatic shaped attires.
2. When used smartly, colours can pertinently display the wearer's emotions, and this was very much evident in Shantanu & Nikhil's collection. Major hues from nature, including cerulean blue, plaster whites and unremitting cement greys made a mark.
3. The stylish and surprising twists given to the drapes made a summer statement.
4. Hoods, high collars and asymmetrical designs ruled the ramp.
Accessories unlimited: Other than a few belts, the collection was minimal in terms of accessories.
Show-Stopper: Sexy lady Deepika Padukone gave a dramatic opening to the show and needless to say, her enigma worked quite well!
Front row: Not just front row, but the entire show area was loaded with fashion lovers. While fellow designers like Ritu Kumar, Ashima Leena, Jatin Kochchar, Manish Verma preferred enjoying the show, JJ Vallaya was spotted chatting up with a buyer from Kuwait.
