SILLY 5: Things that shouldn't have been said

Our Bollywood folks maybe stars in their own right. But they are human too. With massive egos. Egos that need to be lugged around in a suitcase. And they sometimes make statements, which are so pompous, so grandiose, it becomes a laughing matter. And the actor or director becomes the butt of all jokes.

You would think they learn from their mistakes. But that doesn't seem to be the case. They just do it over and over again…

'I am willing to pay five lakhs'

Ram Gopal Varma should have been grateful that Sarkar Raj has given him a new lease of life. But RGV seems to be one of the few people who can handle failure better than success. Post Sarkar Raj, he claimed he would pay five lakh to anybody who could watch Phoonk alone in a theatre.

There was no such contest. RGV made the rash statement but he had no intention of backing it up. Even as his office was flooded with queries about enrolling for the contest people laughed their way through the film.

Too bad RGV, you have nobody to blame but yourself!

'The Last Lear is modelled on my life'

Rituparno Ghosh's magnum opus The Last Lear was finally ready for release after having toured the festival circuit for over a year. As the audience waited with bated breath, suddenly there was this huge controversy about the release date due to an innocuous remark made by Jaya Bachchan.

Even as Raj Thackeray's supporters damaged the box-office at PVR in Mumbai, suddenly we heard that Muzaffar Ali was upset with Rituparno Ghosh. He felt Amitabh Bachchan's character Harry in the film was closely based on his life.

For the uninitiated, Muzaffar Ali has been a well-known filmmaker of his time who made Umrao Jaan and Gaman. Unfortunately today he's only known as director Shaad Ali's father. Agreed, he is planning a new film (Rumi: The Fire of Love) to be released in 2009 but surely there must be another way to get some attention.

'I want 11-crore'

Shirish Kunder is the director of the flop film Jaan-E-Mann. After the box office debacle of Jaan-E-Maan, Kunder was trying to get his pet project Joker off the ground. Despite Farah's closeness to Shah Rukh Khan, the vibes between SRK and Shrish soured during Om Shanti Om. And Joker was unable to find any takers.

Meanwhile, Shri Astavinayak Cine Vision had signed up Salman for a new venture. Salman had recommended that Shirish Kunder be considered for the director's role. You would have expected an out-of-work Shirish to grab the opportunity with both hands. But Shirish apparently has quoted an outrageous figure of 11-crore to direct the film.

If reports are to be believed even Anees Bazmee wasn't paid this much for Singh is Kinng. Jaan-E-Mann, what on earth were you thinking?

'Shah Rukh is licking my feet'

Aamir Khan has always been the quietest of the three Khans. But for some very strange reason, recently Aamir decided to get media savvy, and how! He's always had a blog, which would get miraculously updated as a new Aamir film would be scheduled to hit the screens. But today, film or no film, Aamir updates his blog, and quite outrageously at that.

Shah Rukh is licking my feet!" read the headline of one of his recent posts. Of course it was Shah Rukh, his dog Aamir was talking about. Was it just a coincidence or Aamir's way of hitting below the belt? That debate can rage on. But somewhere we can't help wishing to have the old Aamir back.

'I could have been Shah Rukh'

Long after Vivek Oberoi has retired from films, he will be remembered for his controversies and tall claims. Discretion and modesty are definitely not traits, which can be attributed to him.

But in a recent interview Vivek really went over-the-top. He mentioned, in passing of course and we quote "Aditya Chopra said I could be Shah Rukh!" While we're quite sure neither Aditya nor Shah Rukh would ever condescend to respond, somehow we simply cannot believe Vivek managed to put his foot in the mouth, yet again.
