Today is Sept 11, and it has been 7 years since the bombing of the twin towers. Let us take a minute to pray for all those who perished that day, including all the Indians, many unnamed, who were working in those towers. They had left their homeland and come to this country, trying to secure a better future for themselves and their families, and now their families have been left with memories, and bills, in some cases. Let us pray for all of them.

Eljay,
Those were the days I'd get up at 445 a.m. for my commute. I reached the office at 5.48 am PST and had this habit of listening to CBS morning news. At 550 there was an announcement that a plane crashed into one of the twin towers.
I coolly went into the office and told a collegue about it. She was astonished and said don't you know? The other tower was hit as well. For the next 3 hours I followed the news. I called my sis in New York and she said she saw the towers falling down in front of her eyes on the tv and was in tears.
It was a cold 1999 when we'd visited New York. My elder brother parked in front of the towers, we took some pics in 5 minutes and he came back to pick us up. There was also the ferry ride to statten island, on which I took a couple of pics with the backdrop of the twin towers.
We knew no one who lost their life.
Am only too happy that you opened this topic to jog memories.

Folks, I arrived at the Pentagon's River entrance 5 minutes after the crash on that fateful day, 9-11. I had no idea about the Twin Towers incident at that time as I had been at a breakfast meeting. The guards turned us back, saying there had been an accident. I saw the burning fuselage of a plane (I think it was the North entrance) but had no idea that it was the result of a terrorist attack. I thought it was an accident. Only when I returned to DC about an hour later, after getting caught in horrendous traffic, did I realise that terror had struck in my backyard. The next couple of days were most surrealistic. Most of us in the city had no idea when terror would strike again. It didn't help that there was an anthrax scare a couple of weeks later and a sniper on the loose a few months later. Living through uncertain times wasn't easy, especially when you live alone, as I did then in DC. But losing a loved one prematurely, because of a willful act, is the worst tragedy. May the families of the victims have God's blessings.

My prayers too are with them..
It was a hard one.. very..
For those of us who were a part of the tragedy (even though just witnessing it from the windows of our office building in NYC) our work offered to get us counselling for months to come. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for those who had lost their loved ones. I hope such a thing never happens ever again.
Bon.. I remember DC at that time. Must have been quite frightful to have lived there alone.
