Exit Dilip Kumar and Madhubalas's evergreen romantic classic - Mughal-E-Azam and enter the upcoming new age comedy film Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam starring Mallika Sherawat, Rahul Bose and Paresh Rawal.
When Mallika, (Anarkali) and Paresh Rawal (Mughal-E-Azam) came to the Amul Star Voice of India for a special shoot, all eyes were on the gorgeous actress who walked tall and graceful on the stage to wish all the contestants before they face the freaky Friday- the elimination round. Star Plus' musical reality show Amul Voice of India has zeroed in on 11 of the most powerful voices from all over India. One amongst these voices will be voted out.
Mallika's eyes twinkled as she spoke to the contestants saying, "I'm from a small town myself and have undergone a lot of struggle to be wherever I am. I understand what you are going through right now. It's not easy to stand there, sing and be judged. It needs courage."
And the contest heated up with an announcement stating that the 11 young talented singers are also in the race to become Mallika's Salim. Mallika Sherawat would choose her Salim by putting a ring on his finger. Even the female contestants caught Parel Rawal's attention with their flawless singing. They requested him to select his Anarkali from amongst them. Even anchor Shaan seemed so completely smitten by Mallika that he kept fumbling his lines.
"This is the Mallika effect" said the actor jokingly.
The singing was truly flawless. Saptaparna sang Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (Mughal-e-Azam), Vipul rocked the satge with Parda Hai Parda (Amar Akbar Anthony), Shraddha created magic with Dil Cheez Kya Hai(Umrao Jaan), Sayantani impressed Mallika and the judges with Salaam-e-Ishq (Muqaddar Ka Sikandar), Rohit made the audience groove with Jaane Kya Chahe Mann(Pyar Ke Side Effects), Rahul created a good jugalbandi with the musicians with his Dil Tod Ke Na Ja (Pyar Ke Side Effects), Ryan-the rock star- performed on Mehbooba O Mehbooba (Aap Ka Suroor), Vinti sang Maar Daala(Devdas), Ravi performed on Kaho Na Kaho from Murder to impress Mallika. Rithisha, with her strong classical background recited Tumhari Adaon Pe (Mangal Pandey) with perfection. Zakir created nostalgia with his classic Zindabad Zindabad (Mughal-e-Azam).
The set was designed to reflect the mood of the evening; the contestants were dressed as Salim-Anarkali. Completely surprised by the young talent and their confidence, Mallika cheered and danced with Vipul on Parda Hai Parda...
Contrary to the popular quote - Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all, the participants of VOI are singing - Mirror Mirror on the wall, who would be the Salim to Mallika-e-Husn Mallika Sherawat?
