Menaka is wrong . Menaka is a liar . Today she is also a criminal for aiding abetting Rasik .

But Menaka is also tthe victim of a very horrible male mentality dominated society ruled by the likes of Suryakant and Baa .

What drove Menaka to panic and change the babies in the first place ? Her quick judgement of the facts .....that she was brought to the Garodia family as a second wife inspite of the first wife having 4 children ......simply with one goal.....to procreate , and to procreate fast and give the desired result.....a male heir .

Menaka never was stupid like Savitri , who went on procreating girls after girls and dissatisfying her chauvinist husband . Also , she didnt want to suffer . Savitri the eternal Madonna of the Garodia household , doesnt mind suffering , [ i think she secretly enjoys it .] She also knew what her fate was gonna be if a male heir was not produced......she wud become another Savitri .....reduced to garbage . Perhaps Surya wud marry a third time , or perhaps like Savitri , her body wud undergo four chances , trying to procreate a male issue .

So the smart woman , refusing to have a pathetic end like Savitri , switched the babies , and got some foothold in the house .

Now that the secret is out Menaka has nothing to lose . She shud ask Surya and Baa , why r u blaming me ? I did wat i did , albeit a sin , to survive in this tyrannical madhouse . Where ur tyranny always wins. I gave up my daughter coz i was horribly scared of u.....see the sins u have committed . This chauvinist mentality of u and ur mother Baa , see wat wat it has accomplished . In panic not wanting to be Savitriben , I gave up my daughter .....never saw her ever after that . Btw , now that u know it was a girl how about getting urself tested and knowing u have a chromosome problem ? That girls r born coz of u? So much r people afraid of ur tyranny that see wat people around u r pathetically doing all the time! everyone in the house is leading a lie as a life ......the latest .....Niyati .

Will menaka ask Surya this ? sure she desrves punishment ......but i felt sorry for her as a woman . As a woman caught in the throes of a chauvinistic society , her state is pathetic.

actually I kinda agree and not even surya..i think baa mostly cause she filled his brain and said that a true waaris in a son and that he should get remarried or whatever..

i totally agree w u the root of the problem is stupid baa she her self is a woman n she has issues w girls n tortured her dil cuz she couldn't have a son in reality when its her son who controls as to if it would be a boy or girl . . . as they say women r enemy of other women it is so true . . . daughter can be awesome heirs who the hell said only boys have to be we r 4 sisters and being the oldest i run my dads business n going to school at the same time n i believe if i wouldve been a boy i would be out partying w my dads money n wouldn't give a shit about anything at this age

I don't completely agree with your argument.

I do agree that Baa and Surya are equally to be blamed for this. They wanted a male heir to pass on the family name. Which is a very common in Indian culture. They are at fault for wanting only a male child, but their crime is obliging to old-school mentality (that only sons can pass on the family name).

Menka, on the other hand, didn't switch the babies out of fear that she would end up like Savitri. She knew that Surya was married and is only marring her so she can give him an heir to the family which Savitri can't give anymore. After giving birth to a girl, she treated Savitri and the girls rudely. She treated them like servants and spoiled her so called son Yuvraj. Menka didn't want to give up the money, status in the house hold, and power she got after giving a birth to a son. Menka never even once looked back at her daughter. She went ahead and helped Rasik hide the secret because she didn't want to loose the status in the house. She did all this out of her own selfishness and not fear of ending up like Savitri.

baa is a thick, simpleminded, packmule of a woman who dropped her brain somewhere in a cave. she is among the most foolish twits on this show. the few times suryakant has been shown to make the right decisions (not accepting kajri's child, not allowing rasik in the house), stupid baa always interferes. i have nothing more to say about her except that she is an idiot.

i agree with everything you said, but it's hard for me to have sympathy for menka regardless. she did, after all, marry suryakant willingly, knowing that he already had a wife and four daughters, and knowing that the pressure was entirely on her to provide an heir. why would she put up with such crap? because she entered this union with her own selfish agenda: to marry into a rich household, and take control. it seems like she cares about suryakant, but would she have cared if he wasn't rich? unlikely. menka did not have to marry him and put up with this crap. she chose to. she should have known there was some possibility (in fact, a pretty good possibility) that she would give birth to a daughter, so she should have thought about what that would mean before she decided to marry him and become his babymaker.

if the family had more egalitarian policy, she wouldn't have bothered switching the babies...but in that case, she wouldn't have married surya in the first place because he would have been happy with his daughters and his wife.

Oh i absolutely agree . See , each person has her basic nature and Menakas nature is greedy power hungry , hankering after wealth .

My point is diffrent . The society they r showing in Betiyaan , ......are a coterie of not so educated , extremely traditional , narrow minded women and men . It is one thing to be traditional.....its another thing to be narrow minded . The entire set is extremely narrow minded with no flexibility of mind . So in this sense , one cannot really blame Menaka for wanting wealth , jewels , a higher position in the house , as only a woman has all this is respected within that coterie and she knew it as opposed to goofy Savitri who is incapable of using power even if it is handed to her on a platter . She gives the keys to Menaka and rushes instead to the mandir in the house .

Just look at the crowd in the temple who taunted Niyati for being childless ......the way they speak . Or the way they spoke at Savitri when she gave birth to girl babies or when she refused to wear white when Surya was suspected dead . Menaka , it must be remembered , tried to emerge victorious within that coterie . And the way there is only having jewels , a male child , and being in control.....of running the house , of the mother in law [ baa] , the servants , and the husband by lying to him . Only then can one bloat her rear end like a balloon among those ladies when they grace ur functions .

And in this sense , she is a victim . Not even wanting to see her own girl child is the result of extreme fear fed into the mentality since childhood......a girl is it ??? Chee , ur a failure . She is nothing but a burdensome baggage and all the more costlier a commodity for the father as he will have to shell out dowry . And anyways she will leave the house and carry all the investment there .

So option is.....either be Baa and give birth to a male [ Surya ] and be secure for life , or be Savitri and suffer for life , or be Menaka and emerge victorious till ur secret is found out .

Okay, don't even get me started on Baa

She is the biggest hypocrate to set foot on this planet.

Baa herself has 2 (that's right; TWO) daughters and only one son

Her own daughters are preblem casing, besharam women.

Halki lives in her maayka, despite being married, just because she doesn't like her MIL

Phulki is so irritating that no one married her😃😆

Yet Baa lets them do anything and overlooks anything and everything they do

Now Baa, being a mother, would have sided with Savitri, not Surya on the whole second-marriege thing, but she didn't

Now, when it comes to the betiyaan, if they as much put a toe out of line, it's hour long lectures, disappointed/angry glares and a lot of tears

And still at the end of the day, the betiyann respect her more than Halki-Phulki

If Baa had raised Surya right, then none of this would have happened

feels gud to read everyones opinion....

i have said this several times..that baa and surya are to be blamed for whetver happnened..in the whole drama surya was the most ungrateful...coz if he wud have been satisfied with his life all this wud never have happnenned..and he is like this maybe coz of baa's upbringing as queenyuks said...but if he is such a dictator how can just the upbringing make him do wht he does..i mean he listens to baa only when he wants...

menaka is evil and i dont think it was fear but shear hunger for power that made her not see her dotter till now.menaka is a negative character and everuyone shud hate her...but baa and surya shudnt look like victims and be the ones to pass a judgenent on anyone...they shud see themselves first and realise that iot was them and their ugly mentality which caused so much of endlessssssss trauma in everyones life.

I agree totally . What i meant in my post is this......Menaka , although powerhungry , is not just the villain here . Surya and Baa r too . Since uptill now the Devis never showed guts to attack their own tyrannical father and grandma , will at least Menaka the villain ask them the question as to who r u two guys to pass judgement ?

Will this scene ever be shown ? Surya's tyranny [ shushing the ladies with raised hand].....Baa's dominance [ maine faisla kiya hai . Yeh mera faisla hai . And keeping Rasik in the house without consultation of any family members ].......will some one give these two a solid bashing for their stupidity ?

The Devis never do .

Even now , note three interesting points.

Laxmi knew very well that Menaka was involved somehow in the Rasik Karan thing , yet she never spoke up when Menaka blatantly lied that I have nothing to do with the Rasik fiasco to the police and Surya . Laxmi has always always shielded Menaka , and so has Savitri who went and told her I trust u.....inspite of knowing wat the pair was capable of for so many years .......and these r the injustice fighting Devis.

Surya or the devis have not hauled Baa enough over the coals for pampering Rasik and allowing him to stay saying yeh mera faisla hai . Surya let her go scot free with only one question bas .

Yuvraj was the only one who threw a tantrum asking who the hell allowed Rasik in the house .....even Laxmi didnt utter a worod to her grandma , saying allowing this man to live here is an insult to my husbands memory .

I feel....currently Yuvraj is hundred times better than these DEvis who r useless . He has made mistakes in past but he learnt , he supported Niyati , was ready for no child , opposed Rasiks stay openly . These useless women did nothing , and never learn from their mistakes . And the show is called Betiyaan . It shud be called Beta as thats wat its about anyway and at least the Beta is making an effort to change .
