It's a season of debutants in Bollywood with the likes of Imran Khan, Harman Baweja, Sikander Kher and Rajeev Khandelwal to name a few. But there is one actor who wants to be different from the rest of the brat pack. Meet legendary filmmaker Kamaal Amrohi's grandson Mashhoor Amrohi who will make his big screen debut with Hum Se Hain Jahaan.
"The launch of a newcomer is very relative. One gets Sanjay Leela Bhansali, one gets Sriram Raghavan, and one gets Mashoor Amrohi as a director," says Mashhoor.
The 26-year-old has not only acted in the film but has also written, directed and produced Hum Se Hain Jahaan.
"The role of being a writer stepped in first. I primarily started writing the script based on a thin line that I chanced upon a couple of DVDs and few discussions that I had with my friends. There after the criteria of being the actor in the film was quite certain. It was during pre-production stage that I realised that only I could transpire the script on the celluloid the way I visualised it," Mashhoor says.
Shot on a budget of Rs 9 crore, the film is set in Singapore and is a romantic thriller. And if you are wondering why Mashhoor is not making headlines like his other contemporaries Imran Khan and Harman Baweja, this is what he has to say.
"Don't look into the fact that it's not being promoted on the level that you would aspire a newcomer to be. I didn't find the right girlfriend to go out with and neither did I find the right uncle to support the film. Not my fault, not theirs. My criteria has been to deliver a great film."
So will Mashhoor get famous with his first film? We will have to find out when it hits theatres on the June 6 along with Sarkar Raaj and Aamir.
