Lust. Greed. Gluttony. Gen Z is less religious than older generations - so why does its slang sound so biblical?

Time travel thoughts.

I knew this guy very well. A long time ago. But not so much these days for we hardly interact anymore other than pass each other than to give a glance when we pass a stranger on the road. It is strange indeed when a person you knew so well is now a stranger. I sometimes do stop and stare at this person who seems so distant and wonder why he looks so lost, and out of sync with current times and happenings.

It is not the clothes and it is not the ambience but the look, the thoughts of that person and the other strangers who have begun to gather around him and wave at me. I raise my hand to wave at them and find them all disappearing and realise that they were not saying hi in recognition, but waving to say bye as they fade away.

I know this guy very well but I am sure he too will soon become a stranger and recede into darkness and into frayed memories.

I wipe the mirror clean but sadly it does nothing to wipe life, its memories and the reflections that are buried in there.

Squeezing my eyes tight, I strain hard to bring back that familiar stranger and those who surrounded him and they appear and I disappear into the years that have passed me by and are buried in broken mirrors reflecting broken memories.

I now make my living in this present with the current persona, a new avatar that in a few years will fade away to become another stranger who I once knew well, but will one day pass each other with just the barest hint of recognition.

Our planet Earth is a mere speck of dust floating around the sun in the known universe. Even in our own solar system, it only ranks fifth in size when compared to is larger siblings Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. It managed that position by beating Venus through a relatively narrow margin.

Inside our planet, cocooned by an atmosphere, all life eke out a living. Each species have their own ways, habits and eco systems. We Humans live in vast cities and towns and go about doing that by living in our own worlds. Yes, a house is in a way a world but I am talking about our thoughts, belief, emotions, faith and devotion.

All of us live in our own secret world, that we created for ourselves and for our loved ones. It is an invisible bubble created, through love, respect, trust and with the co-operation of others we call family and friends.

Sadly, sometimes they are shattered and razed to the ground by the actions of a loved one or a close friend. The reason could have been anything starting from a subject that both of you didn't see eye to eye, or maybe even something downright petty in nature. But, when those fights, disagreements, misunderstandings happen, the world that you and the other existed in, breaks, parts and soon become two separate and different worlds.

Yes, many a time, peace is given a chance, and relationships and friendships are mended and new worlds are created between souls. That said, some worlds remain pieces and dust and very distant to each other.

But, what happens when you find yourselves in a bad situation, and you have no clue as to what is happening, why it is happening, and who made it happen. I mean if you or me are stuck in such a situation, it is safe to say that at the least it can be very frustrating and in extreme cases can send a person to lash out in rage and vengeance.

Humans crave understanding and answers because our brains evolved as survival machines. We need to predict threats, find safety, and reduce mental stress. Knowing how things work gives us a sense of control and keeps our worldview safe from sudden changes. Our minds dislike loose ends or messy information. We want clear answers so we can make final choices and stop worrying. Knowing the "why" helps us feel safe. It makes the world seem less random and lets us plan for the future.
