Batwara 1947 saw huge growth on its second as it collected a decent 12 crore nett which is a huge jump coming from the 5 crore nett on the first day but there was a good chance this would happen but the tougher part is Sunday and whether that can hold up in double digits. The reports and all that may be fine but the problem is a limited audience and its tough for the film to collect at these levels.

It got the benefit of Independence Day on Saturday but on Sunday the film will face an issue with the evening and night collections which will make it tougher to get into double digits. The total business of the film in two days is 17 crore nett which is not good enough considering the size of the film. The two day collections of the film are as follows.

Friday - 5,00,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 12,00,00,000 apprx

TOTAL - 17,00,00,000 apprx

Amir likes to do movies with a message... and honestly, the theatre play he used has a very humanist one.

Just saw the film. The film has a plot that is as old as the hills, with an outdated treatment that fails to hold your interest after a point. It offers no novelty and ventures into lanes that have been revisited time and again. The pacing is also rather slow, testing your patience in the process.

The first 15 minutes are actually quite interesting. The horrors of Partition have been depicted quite effectively. The story, however, comes to a standstill after Sunny Deol reaches Lahore. The Hindu-Muslim angle injected into the narrative feels so off-putting and completely outdated. So many films have already been made on this issue that revisiting it yet again is a complete turn-off. The story becomes a total bore at this point.

The second half isn’t much better. The proceedings become so monotonous that you actually want the film to end. Thankfully, the last 10 minutes are quite moving and end the film on a positive note.

Sunny Deol tries hard to infuse life into his role and succeeds to some extent. Preity Zinta is decent. Shabana Azmi has a major part to play, and the conclusion to her character definitely brings a lump to the throat during the climax. Karan Deol, however, is no hero material.

Overall, Batwara 1947 disappoints despite a few engaging moments.
