In this TS, MaHer got divorced differently. Seher was around 24, and Mahid was 30 when they got divorced. It was because Seher always felt her feelings and love for Mahid were one-sided, and he deserved better for how much he supported her in her dream to become a doctor.
6 years later,
(So Seher is now 30 and Mahid is 36. I imagined Rishu as Seher here)
Mahid looked at the moon helplessly. His eyes conveyed sorrow and loneliness. He was living for the sake of it. Life didn't hold much value to him.
"It's been 6 years. 6 years since that day when you confessed your feelings to me, but also handed me the divorce papers. You did not even give me a second to be relieved and enjoy the fact that what you had for me is exactly what I have for you! Love... Not just love, you meant the life for me. If only I had pinned you to the wall and forced you to listen to what was in my heart, but the words just couldn't reach my mouth. I wish...but anyways...all the beautiful memories you gave me, for those thank you!"
Mahid's mind subconsiously travelled to all the beautiful memories of him and Seher. Their time at Adamganj... How she expanded her arms and shouted Zindagi Khubsurat Hai. Played with the flowers as bright as her face and smile. Then how she carrassed his face calm him for his breakdown "Hum Haqeeqat Hai" and hugged him tight. And then on the Eid, on the terrace, when she told him that the moon is nothing in front of him. And how she always makes him smile and laugh with her crazy antics and impresses him with her intelligence and maturity.
Mahid: (in his mind) Seher, whenever I see the moon, I always think of you. Your name is Seher, meaning the dawn, but as you left my life engulfed in darkness. Perhaps this is how life is. It begins with the sun and ends with the moon. I am just counting days for the night to be over. Just that it seems like I won't get to see the daylight again.
Mahid recalls their moment that day. It was their 2nd trip to Adamganj. However, this time Mahid went there for work. He was the renowned Mufti, and he came to give his speech as he was looked up to! He was respected with honour and even given a special award for being the most impactful Mufti who made a change in society!
Seher held his arm and took him upstairs to the terrace.
Mahid: What are you doing, Seher? Where are you taking me to?!
Seher: Just wait and watch, Mahid!
Seher happily brought her upstairs, and Mahid was surprised.
Seher: Tada!
Mahid saw there was a tent being setup and it had lights. And there was a basket placed with Sheermal Nihari, juice, snacks and fruits.
Mahid: What is this, Seher?!
Seher: To celebrate your success! You have thrown a party for me when I topped my boards, and then when I completed my MBBS. Now this is for you, Mahid, after all, you are awarded the most influential Mufti.
Mahid: Seher its my duty, what's there to celebrate?
Seher: Don't be so boring, Mahid! Come, let's enjoy. I have cooked your favourite Sheermal Nihari with difficulty! You can't let it go to waste!
Seher and Mahid sat down, and they had Sheermal Nihari. Seher was smiling very brightly, and Mahid was lost in her. How happy she was. She was happier with his success than he himself was. This is how his Seher is.
After eating and finishing the Nihari, Seher felt she would have a food coma, so she lay down.
Mahid: (worried) What happened, Seher?! Are you okay?!
Seher pulled Mahid's arm and made him lie down too!
Mahid: What are you doing? My kurta will get dirty!
Seher: Leave your Kurta. (points at the moon) Look at the beautiful moon!
Mahid looked at the full moon! It was gleaming more than usual. It was indeed a very beautiful view. They both were silent for some time as they looked at the moon.
Mahid: I have never seen such a beautiful sight before. MashaAllah! You are right, life is indeed beautiful, but I was too arrogant to see it all these years. I made my heart like a stone and never let happiness come to me. But after you came into my life, you changed my perspective. I hope I will be a better person InshaAllah and not hurt my close ones like my Ammi, Dada Huzur, Tahir, you...
Seher: (smiling) I am glad I am in your list. At least I hold some value for you.
Mahid: We are a great team together.
Seher: That we are! No one can defeat #MaHer.
Mahid: (getting jealous) Maher? Now, who is he?
Seher laughs.
Seher: Mahid, it is the combination of the initials of our names. Ma from Mahid and Her from Seher. MaHer.
Mahid starts laughing.
Mahid: Only you can come up with such things, Seher!
Seher laughs too!
Seher: You should laugh more often. It suits you. It will lighten your heart, too. You are too harsh sometimes.
Mahid: To be honest, I hope Allah will make my heart softer, and I will become even less harsh. I even feel I am too harsh sometimes. My inability to express myself well has always caused problems. I wish I understood what my Ammi always wanted. But I wasted my 15 years thinking she ruined everything. I am sorry, Ammi...
Mahid was getting emotional.
Seher: You know, Mahid, I have seen more beautiful things than the moon!
Mahid: (looking at Seher) Is it?! What is it?!
Just then, Seher placed his hand on his heart.
Seher: Your heart, Mahid.
Mahid was surprised.
Seher: Remember when I was getting panic attacks when my Ammi went missing, then you calmed me down...just like this...
Seher: And you were right, Ammi was alright and came back home safely...
Mahid looked at Seher.
Seher: You were always there at my worst times. When the whole society was against me, even my own family, you supported me. You were always there for me. You saw the real me. You fulfilled all my dreams. I am Dr Seher because of you. What else is even left?!
You are such a beautiful-hearted person, Mahid. How do you do so much?! You know, even this moon looks nothing in front of you.
Mahid and Seher stared at each other as Mahid moved his hand and held hers. She looked at him admiringly.
Mahid: Seher...
Seher: What is it?
Mahid: Thank you for coming into my life!
Seher: I know this is how I am!
Seher smiles, and Mahid smiles too at her cuteness.
Mahid noticed there was some Nihari gravy below her lips. He gestured to her, and she tried to wipe it, but couldn't.
Mahid helped her as he held her dupatta and helped her wipe it. They looked at each other.
Then they came close as they placed their lips on each other.
End of flashback.
Mahid opened his eyes, and it was the dawn. It was early morning, only the sky, not his life. He looked around, confused and yawning. He was in the most beautiful place - Kashmir, but it barely mattered to him.
A guy comes to him.
Guy: You had fallen asleep here, Miyaan. You were so deep in sleep that I couldn't bother you.
Mahid looked around and saw the outdoor eatery where he had been sitting yesterday, but it was morning instead.
Guy: Do you want food, Miyaan? I will get it for you.
Mahid: Just get me whatever works for you.
Guy: We have Sheermal Nihari! Our special! Let us bring that!
Before Mahid could say anything, he left. Mahid recalled that after Seher left, he never had Sheermal Nihari. He didn't care what he was eating as long as it was food. Everything tasted similar to him after she was gone.
The guy came back quickly and placed the Sheermal Nihari on his table. Mahid started eating it.
As he was eating, he heard a voice
"Excuse me, Uncle, you are eating my Sheermal Nihari!"
Mahid looked and found a small figure. It was a small boy wearing a Kurta similar to his, having a similar hairstyle to his and having his hands folded behind him. It was his mini version. Mahid looked at the little boy, confused.
Boy: Uncle, I came here, and you were sleeping. I didn't want to bother you, so I sat and got my Sheermal Nihari ordered. Then I went to wash my hands, but was playing with the goat, and then I washed my hands again. I came back and saw you are eating my Sheermal Nihari! Not fair!
Mahid: Well, I was served this Sheermal Nihari. Why will I eat yours?!
Boy: Who knows?!
Mahid: (continues eating) They will get yours soon.
Boy: No, you took mine!
Mahid: (annoyed) But I was here first! Go and bother someone else!
Boy: I am not leaving till I get my Sheermal Nihari.
Shopkeeper: What happened?!
Boy: This uncle took my Sheermal Nihari.
Shopkeeper: Dear boy, it is his! I got yours too, but you weren't there, and I know you like it hot and fresh, so I waited for you to be back! Let me bring it right now!
The shopkeeper brings the Sheermal Nihari, and the boy looks at him with embarrassment. But he doesn't want to say sorry.
The shopkeeper brings his Sheermal Nihari. And he eats fast.
Mahid: (in his mind) What a short-tempered kid!
Mahid: (coughs) What are you supposed to say?
Boy: What will I say?!
Mahid: Your Ammi didn't teach you?!
Boy: Uncle, don't you dare say anything against my Ammi. My Ammi is the best in the world!
Mahid was talking, and just then a piece of the meat choked him. He starts coughing, and coughing more. The boy gets surprised and rushes to him. He rubs his back, slaps his back and makes him drink water.
Mahid is better now.
Mahid: Thank you for helping me. You are a little boy, how do you know all these?!
Boy: My Ammi taught me. She told me that who knows, a stranger may need my help one day! She is a doctor after all!
Mahid: Your Ammi is a doctor?
Boy: She is not just the best Ammi but the best doctor too!
Mahid recalls Seher when she dons the doctor coat on her first day of work. This brings a tear to his eyes.
Mahid: My wife was a doctor too!
Boy: Is it? Where is Aunty? I don't see her?!
Mahid: I don't know... I tried finding her in every corner of the country, but I just couldn't...I failed...Allah knows where she is and how she is doing?! I just hope she is happy wherever she is.
Mahid breaks down, and the boy really feels bad. He takes Mahid's hand and places it on his heart. Mahid recalls how Seher used to do the same, too.
Boy: Whenever you feel down, just feel your heartbeat. It helps. My Ammi taught me.
Mahid: What is your name, dear?
Boy: Maher.
Mahid's eyes widen, hearing this. A boy around 6 who is a carbon copy of him but is witty like Seher. Loves sheermal nihari. His mom is a doctor. Placing hands on the heart. And his name is Maher, the joint initials of his and Seher's names.
Just then, the boy smiles happily.
Boy: Here is my dear Ammi!
Maher rushed to his Ammi happily, and Mahid looked. He was right. It was her! Seher...
Seher hugged the boy happily and kissed his forehead, smiling.
Seher: My dear Shehzada!
Maher: Ammi, you know I helped an uncle today. He was choking on his Sheermal Nihari, and then I did what you taught me!
Seher: I know my son is very brave!
Maher holds Seher's hand and brings her.
Maher: Let me introduce you to the uncle.
Seher got shocked and gasped as she saw him. Mahid! Her first love. But one-sided. The man who did so much for her. The father of her child.
They looked at each other as the world froze around them.
He was looking for her just to see her face for once. To see that she was doing okay. And now, finally, that moment was here. But along with that, he got the biggest shock of his life! His son...Their son...
He had questions to ask a lot of them... Why?!
She had answers she didn't want to give. They looked at each other, what they yearned for... for years...but everything was different now....
