Congratulations to EngW for their win against hapless SL! England Women won by 87 runs

ENGW 219/1(20)

SLW 132(20)

England couldn't have asked for a better start in this tournament. Must be so nice to go out and deliver in the way they have in the opening game itself after all the planning. Sets the tone nicely for them. As for Sri Lanka, they looked untidy with the ball and in the field. Some of the bowling to Wyatt-Hodge, giving her the room that she loves, was very ordinary. Next up is another difficult opponent for them in the form of New Zealand. At least the only way is up from here.

England Women vs Ireland Women, 8th Match, Group B, ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026

Tuesday at T20 World Cup: New Zealand eye first win; Ireland run into England

Southampton will host the double-header on Tuesday, with Ireland and Sri Lanka also searching for first points

Who's playing whom?

A rest day on Monday will be followed by a double-header on Tuesday. Defending champions New Zealand will take on Sri Lanka from 1.30pm GMT in Southampton, where New Zealand lost their opening fixture to West Indies. Sri Lanka are also coming off a defeat, having lost to hosts England in their first game. The contest has been largely one-sided, with New Zealand winning 14 of the 16 completed T20Is against Sri Lanka. However, they have lost two of the last four of those meetings, including the bilateral series in New Zealand in March, which ended in 1-1.

In the second game of the day that starts at 5.30pm GMT, England will face Ireland, who lost their opener to Scotland on Saturday. Ireland are without a win in 18 Women's T20 World Cup matches. The teams have met only four times in T20Is, with England winning three, but Ireland winning the last clash, against a second-string England side in 2024. The hosts will start as overwhelming favourites again though.

Team News for New Zealand vs Sri Lanka match

New Zealand: The defending champions made the bold call to bench veteran Suzie Bates for Georgia Plimmer but the move didn't pay off. Desperate to open their account before it's too late, New Zealand can make that swap at the top of the order to bolster their batting. There could be a likely change in the bowling line up too.

Probable XI: Izzy Gaze (wk), Suzie Bates, Amelia Kerr (C), Sophie Devine, Brooke Halliday, Maddy Green, Izzy Sharp, Jess Kerr, Nensi Patel, Rosemary Mair, Lea Tahuhu/Bree Illing

Sri Lanka: Vishmi Gunaratne got the nod ahead of the experienced Hasini Perera on recent form, and Sri Lanka might be tempted to give her another shot before making any changes to their first choice XI.

Probable XI: Vishmi Gunaratne, Chamari Athapaththu (c), Imesha Dulani, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Hasini Perera, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshika Silva, Kaushani Nuthyangana (wk), Sugandika Kumari, Malki Madara, Mithali Ayodhya Bench
