Love Aaj Kal had a flashback-love-story ...Rishi telling Saif his own love story as a young man to make him clear that he should not let go of the woman he loves (latter also a subject in other Imtiaz movies).

Now, it is of bringing back a dying man into a region that had been India when he fell in love and became Pakistan when he was separated from her (the "I'll come back" pledge)... We get to know (and I suppose, Diljit as his grand-son, too) - through Vedang and Sharvari - the old love-story never forgotten.

All the love stories Imtiaz tells have a common subject - don't let go of the true love (if ever you experience it)... it's the love which makes you "whole" ...like in the Platonic image of a "Ladder of Love" ... Plato’s concept is intensely passionate (physical love) and spiritual, an argument that human desire can be refined—using the spark of attraction as the foundation for a shared, creative, and intellectual climb towards wisdom. (later - for whatever reasons - platonic love became the tag of being sexless)

Yes, I love this calm... especially on sets... he is a fine observer, concentrated and thoughtful... he once asked me if I won't get bored with his calm (smiley36) and I answered : "Why should I when I can witness your kind of pensive direction." I think he can get a lot out of those who work with him. Also, he is very youthful in his thinking smiley1
