Just saw the movie. The film definitely has its moments where it strikes a chord, but the story becomes so clichéd in the latter half that everything turns outright predictable and routine. It follows a familiar path that has been explored many times before, with nothing particularly innovative about it.
The first 30 minutes feel quite fresh, and the film keeps you hooked thanks to the terrific chemistry between Ananya and Lakshya. The love that blossoms between them despite not speaking a word initially comes across as very convincing. Both of them look completely made for each other, and this portion is sure to resonate strongly with youngsters. The pregnancy angle injected into the narrative has been done to death, but thankfully the emotional quotient is quite strong here, which is why the drama still works despite the similarities with several past films.
However, the conflict at the interval point does not feel particularly impactful. Moreover, the entire second half revolves around Ananya being unable to forgive Lakshya for his actions. The same issue keeps getting repeated over and over, resulting in a stretched narrative.
The film, in totality, comes across as a clichéd romance despite having some fresh moments. A strong sense of déjà vu prevails throughout. Initially, it carries a strong hangover of Salaam Namaste and Kya Kehna. The parental opposition angle also reminds one of 2 States. Even the central theme of the story resembles Thappad, where self-respect takes precedence over love.Ananya not being able to move abroad because she has to take care of her mother reminded me of her character in Tu Meri Main Tera .
Lakshya looks dashing and does a wonderful job. His pain, anguish, and frustration come across very effectively, and his screen presence is top-notch. Also, his chemistry with Ananya is piping hot.
Ananya continues to impress. She has an author-backed role and conveys so much through her eyes. Although one may feel her character is being unreasonable at times, she still manages to win the audience's sympathy.
Overall, Chand Mera Dil is an average film with some heartwarming moments, but it is held back by an overly routine story.
