I doubt he would be paraded around in media even if he were working for the intelligence. All agency officials are not on TV, so why would he have to occupy a lower clerical post? He could still work in the agency like other covert operatives do.

He knows his mother doesn’t deserve to suffer all over again if he shows up and brings chaos at her doorstep threatening his sister and her kids along with his mother who seemed to have settled into their lives without him.
Yalina only asked one thing of him - he takes care that her child is safe.
He can’t even hold onto anything that is associated with them - not even simple pictures. Burning the picture he had with his parents and sisters was essential for his mission as one rookie mistake and his cover could be blown by a very small thing. Burning his picture with Yalina and their son is a necessity to protect his sanity.
