Happy Valentine's day dear ....❤️,such a beautiful take..I loved it..

I agree with every movie in the list...Since you have asked post 2000, so apart from all these beautiful names in the list, i would like to include some of my personal favorites.... underrated may be but I love them .

Lootera :Love as repentance. As waiting. As tenderness born from guilt, silence, and inevitability. As forgiveness that arrives too late.A romance built on glances, letters, and everything left unsaid; where tragedy whispers softly ...One of the Best performances from Ranveer and Sonakshi..

Socha Na Tha :Two people resisting an arranged marriage, only to fall into love by accident.Awkward, funny, deeply human & proof that sometimes love grows quietly, awkward beginnings turning into quiet certainty...Both Abhay and Ayesha were 🥰

Qarib Qarib Single: Love, revisited.Middle-aged, bruised by past relationships, and refreshingly honest; reminder that romance doesn’t expire with youth.Love after life has happened; second chances without the burden of perfection.Irrfan Khan and Parvathy were chef kiss.. ❤️❤️❤️

Raincoat: Love surviving in the narrow space between pride and poverty. Two former lovers meeting after years, pretending life turned out fine; a film that feels like one long, quiet ache... Aishwarya and Ajay Devgan both were beautiful...

And many more actually.....Bollywood romance has evolved. These stories understand that sometimes love doesn’t end in marriage. Sometimes it ends in memory. Sometimes in acceptance. Sometimes in simply knowing you once felt deeply and that was enough...

Meri pyaari Bindu

Also The Lunchbox where Two lonely people connecting through letters in lunch box.A love that exists more in possibility than reality and that’s exactly why it stays with me...

I am such sucker for love stories.....i am sure I missed so many movies...

And Thank you for this post

Lootera, Qarib Qarib Single....Indeed such beautiful movies....

Did you watch the Tamil movie Mani Ratnam's Alaypayuthe, which was made into Saathiya in Hindi?

Talking about Romantic movies, did you watch Gadar? I only watched it recently and found the love story between the leads very romantic...

Cannot believe they are not making the traditional love stories anymore and we have to dig them from decades ago...

Yeah yeah.... when I first saw Saathiya looong time back, I promptly fell in love with it...Rani and Vivek were my OTP to romance and happiness lol...both were too good...but then one fine day out of curiosity i saw Alaypayuthe....OMG....that movie was magical to the point i could not even explain..so much more raw, real, grounded, fresh ,simpler yet deeper and most importantly I could see both Madhavan and Shalini literally growing up and blooming on screen....I loved it to such an extent that after these years i have seen Alaypayuthe much more than Saathiya...

The crux of the movie worked for me...In both films, ultimately, it’s about how a man and a woman approach marriage differently. For the hero, once they are married, he’s done. Life is perfect, he has a wife at home, no need to do any more work on the relationship. But for the heroine, marriage is when it really begins. Suddenly she is consumed with all the responsibilities of being a wife, and the huge existential question of if this person who she has given everything over to actually cares about her, can actually take care of her. And the resolution is him realizing just how much she still matters to him, that he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her happy. And her giving in and realizing that she loves him and can stop holding back and waiting for proof..

Another movie of similar theme of marital discord but with its own distinctive voice and characters was CHALTE CHALTE...All the behind the scenes controversy aside, I also like that movie...

And about Tara and Sakina in Gadar, yeah I have seen Gadar and leads & their love story along with the beautiful songs was probably the best part of the movie for me....All those shy glances, half smiles , seeing a big man like Tara( sunny deol) becoming a cute love sick puppy before his woman was such a blissful sight...and Sakina was sooo fantastic as a character...You ultimately care for them and root for them to win over every obstacles and be together...and that's why I didn't mind the rest of the movie with its OTTness with loud dialoguebaazi and melodrama... because I was waiting for them to be happily together in the end.

That was so beautifully put...Agree about Alaypayuthe being simply magical...And it also aged so well...I watched it so many times that I memorized the Tamil dialogues from the movie even though I don't know much of Tamil...

I haven't watched Chalte Chalte yet....But I love the Music album of that movie...

Tara Sakina...yes...only their love mattered to me as a viewer..Though I also liked Ashraff Ali a lot and his love for his daughter, though overbearing in the beginning but ultimately his real fatherly love triumphing over his selfish motives seemed like such a natural transformation in a movie that was about love...

I also like the mushy romances like Maine Pyar Kiya, HAKHK , Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahi etc...Now this innocent romance genre seems to have completely disappeared from the Cinema altogether....

You know Most people make fun of me because I tend to judge films regardless of genre , by how they treat relationships, especially romantic ones. But for me, emotional integrity is non-negotiable. I can’t fully enjoy an action film, a thriller, or even a suspense drama if the emotional under-current feels hollow or underdeveloped.Spectacle alone doesn’t impress me. Grandeur, VFX, scale .. they may dazzle for a moment, but they don’t make me care.

At the end of the day, storytelling is about investment. You want someone to win. You want the stakes to matter. And that only happens when you’re emotionally connected , when you understand what a character stands to lose, who they love, and why it matters.Without that emotional anchor, even the most technically brilliant film feels distant.

For me, relationships, especially romantic ones are the pulse of the narrative. They humanize ambition, soften rage, complicate morality, and raise the stakes in ways no explosion ever could..so I am like "chalo.. laugh on me but that's my way of watching movie"lol

Another mention,Since we are talking about romantic subplots, so even though Shahrukh Khan is called The King Of Romance but his most mature love story comes from a movie which is not about Romance....

I am talking about Mohan-Geeta in Swadesh...What makes their dynamic special is that it’s built on respect before attraction.Geeta isn’t dazzled by Mohan’s NRI status. She challenges him. Questions him. Pushes him.And Mohan doesn’t fall for her because she’s gentle or ornamental,he falls for her conviction. Her rootedness. Her refusal to compromise on education and self-respect.Their romance grows through debates about brain drain, discussions about responsibility, disagreements about tradition and progress, shared silences that feel earned

There’s no dramatic confession scene. No sweeping background score declaring destiny.Just a gradual realization.

Geeta has agency. She makes it clear she won’t leave her village simply to follow him. Mohan’s love, in turn, doesn’t shrink her ambition. It evolves him.And when Mohan ultimately chooses to come back & stay, it doesn’t feel like sacrifice for romance. It feels like emotional and moral clarity...

I loved how the movie honoured their love...

Have you seen Swadesh?

Ohh God....I genuinely thought I was the only person who liked Jab Harry Met Sejal🥹. None of my friends connected with it when we watched it...in fact, they laughed when I said I liked it because they all disliked it so strongly.

And yet, I can’t explain it… it worked for me. Beautifully.

Jab Harry Met Sejal isn’t a “perfect” film by conventional standards,it’s uneven, indulgent, slow in places. But it has a very specific emotional frequency. And if you’re tuned into that frequency, it hits. It’s a film about loneliness hiding behind charm. About two people who don’t feel “enough” in their own lives. About wandering without knowing what you’re actually searching for.

So may be I was in a certain mood,in a certain emotional phase, carrying a certain softness that this movie cought. And Some films just land differently depending on where you are emotionally when you watch them....So I understand you and won't laugh at all..in fact you are my buddy...

Bold: same ...same...I just didn't mention these movies as TM has asked about movies post 2000...
