True. Anyone can cheat especially nowadays. But I think this was more applicable to women in the context that not just because Tulsi was expressing herself but because she also said how husbands stay young and wives get old. Obviously not everyone does stay young looking like Mihir irrespective of age, as is the case here, but it’s not the physical appearance that matters when it comes to men.
Men can father children almost all their lives once they hit puberty. Women have a limited window of a couple of decades and even though she may have a very limited number of children nowadays, unlike say our great grandparents or even earlier generations did, women tend to carry the physical markers of pregnancies - they may lose weight if they are lucky, but they probably never lose the stretch marks, they never lose the toll that each pregnancy took on their body whether it was carried to term or not.
Today we find couples who are willingly childless but even there the dynamics are never set in stone.
Women go through so much through pregnancy, childbirth and eventually raising those kids because her upbringing will be questioned, ridiculed, mocked over anything and everything; not the man’s fatherhood.
After decades a woman finally feels like she can get some break when her kids are old enough and settled in their lives; she thinks she’s finally going to relax, maybe enjoy some old movies and songs, some plays or books with her husband. They’ll play with grandkids, maybe enjoy some time on trips and vacations, perhaps go on some Yatra they meant to go on…
And it all comes crashing down when she finds out she’s been replaced by a new woman who has one thing going on for her - her looks - while this woman has ignored her own self and needs to raise a family that she helped create, nurture and support with this man, for this man…
All she did and has done amounts to nothing because she’s not shiny and new, but someone else is. She’s no petite and unscathed with no stretch marks, but someone else is.
The only person whose love and happiness mattered to her made her the loneliest person when she stopped mattering to him.
