We Mourn
For the Lives Taken Too Soon in Tumbler Ridge, Canada
I’m struggling to find the words for what has happened in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, a small, close-knit community forever changed by unimaginable violence. A mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a nearby home has left 10 people dead, including the suspected shooter, and dozens more wounded. What should have been an ordinary day of learning and life turned into heartbreak for families, friends, and an entire nation.
In a town of just a few thousand people, where faces are familiar and neighbors become family, this tragedy cuts deep. Students found themselves hiding, barricading classrooms, and fearing for their safety, courage born of terror. Emergency responders rushed in. Parents waited and prayed. And now many are grieving.
To those who have lost loved ones, to those carrying injuries both visible and unseen, and to this wounded community: we are holding you in our hearts. Words feel so small right now, but please know that compassion, solidarity, and support stretch across the miles. This isn’t just one town’s pain, it’s a sorrow felt around the world.
Let us honor the memories of those gone too soon by standing together, offering support where we can, and demanding a future where such violence is not a recurring nightmare. 🙏
