That’s a commendable recovery from India to post what now looks like a competitive total. But credit where it’s due - what a bowling performance this has been from the USA! Bowling first against the defending champions, the USA bowlers have produced a truly impressive effort. When India were sent in to bat, a total in excess of 200 would have seemed the obvious expectation. Instead, they were rocked early. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a duck in just the second over, setting the tone for a difficult powerplay for the Men in Blue. It was inspirational bowling from the USA inside the powerplay - tight lines, relentless dot-ball pressure and timely breakthroughs. India were reduced to 46 for 4 by the end of the powerplay, firmly on the back foot. The pressure continued through the middle overs as more wickets fell, and at one stage India found themselves struggling at 77 for 6 in the 13th over. That’s when the crucial partnership unfolded between Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav. They steadied the innings when it mattered most. While Axar Patel couldn’t quite kick on, Suryakumar Yadav played a sensational knock. Leading from the front, the Indian captain remained unbeaten on 84, guiding India past the 160-run mark and ensuring they had something to bowl at.
