Bridgerton show is so weird

S1 - the guy didn't want to have kids. The girl forced him and then was also doing drama cause apparently forcing a guy to have kid is betrayal to her somehow lol

S2 is straight from Bollywood movies. The leads cheat on the sister of fl

S3- I guess that Penelope wala season where she's gossip girl sasta copy and expose affairs in public.

S4- affair of maid and someone from bridgerton family . There is a power imbalance lol

Also these shows aren't clean or whatever. Explicit sex scenes bhar bhar k. Probably curse words too idk

And the shows are so weird too. There is a long history of black community were marginalized and being slaves for centuries and this show shows there had good position in society etc .when the show came out it was the main criticism. Whatever, fiction and all

Problem is our desi audience is gawar. But that doesn't mean any creative director has to tone down their stories. If someone can't differentiate it's their loss

And idk why our desi culture is really into purity bad language blah blah with 2.3 kids in average and population of 140+ cr, a culture of rapes and murders.

They wanna make a fantasy using the original novels. Meghan Markle, a half black woman married Harry in our lifetime and she’s facing racism owing to that. I know there are reports against her about her own behaviour yada yada… but the racism is undeniable regardless of her own behaviour too. One doesn’t cancel out the other.

These people want to show Britain having a black queen some 250-300 years ago?! Yeah right. Then the elites of the ton marry a poor Indian girl, a Chinese is up next, a black Marquis… so believable.

Women also are shown to be wearing more risqué necklines than they originally did back in the era. Kate is shown hunting!

So when I tune into that show I do it not for facts but to simply unwind and watch something that I don’t need to pay attention to but can enjoy.

I found the spinoff Queen Charlotte also better in terms of acting and the storyline.

The thing is very few people understand, movies are a source to whitewash history! The younger generations have very impressionable minds, and easily believe what they see.

Even if you see, bridgeton! How they are showing that the royals family was so open to other cultures and people of color.

It was never the truth! But narratives and history change with time and in the end every thing is manipulated.

I think people always knew, maybe not in large numbers but they knew that movies are a tool of propaganda and brainwashing. But the issue was that those with the access to mediums that could help raise voice against such practices were often in on it themselves or shut down by the system. Be it in print or otherwise.

But now you don’t need to be a columnist in a newspaper, or have some kind of access to be a panelist on TV or radio. You have social media now and can do whatever you want with your account regardless of being a celeb or an influencer or an intellectual or whatever. If you have substance in what you say then you will be heard and go viral. So now people are more vocal, more aware simply because they can be heard regardless of their status. And they know their thoughts are validated when they receive feedback. That’s the difference.

Before you couldn’t speak out if you wanted as a common man, now you can.

You’re a teacher?! That’s cool.

I agree my parents were very careful about the kind of movies they watched, the songs they played around my brother and I.

Crazily I remember watching Gadar in the theatre back then. My dad would travel often for work so he didn’t get a lot of time to take us to movies. Back then Gadar and Lagaan had clashed at the box office and everyone was raving about them. We pleaded with dad to take us to watch at least one of the two as we knew he would be travelling for weeks soon. With school and everything we wouldn’t get time when he was free either even if the movies still ran in the theatres. Back then they only had single screen theatres too unlike now.

Dad obliged and said he would take us to whichever movie’s tickets are available as both were running with packed theatres and tickets were hard to get even if you bought in black. He got tickets to Gadar on a weekend, we were absolutely thrilled and excited.

We got to our local theatre and seats were packed, there was a legit rush of people coming out and going in and we had to hold onto the hands of our parents lest we get lost!

Inside we were seated between our parents and then came that barely there scene of 2/3 seconds in a song between Sunny and Amisha. I think it’s Udja Kale Kawan, the one where they show these two in a barn or something where these two consummate their marriage. He slightly rubs his lips over hers and I remember my parents being absolutely mortified by having to explain that to us. My dad would go onto say, if only he had known this scene existed he would’ve taken us to a different theatre a bit far away from home where Lagaan was playing! smiley37 We would have had to travel for half an hour, one way to get there! My parents were willing to spend a whole extra hour just for travelling both ways to avoid those 2/3 seconds!

Nowadays parents don’t care what they themselves do and say around kids let alone be bothered to monitor the kind of content they consume. If your child watches you swear as they grow up, they will end up swearing thinking it’s absolutely normal. If you watch problematic content around them they will find it normal as they don’t know otherwise. I honestly think sometimes it’s better that we have these dumb shows everyone makes fun off rather than smarter shows like Dexter, Breaking Bad which might influence our youth to see these characters as idols when Dexter and Walter are the last people you want your child to idolise.

Yes, I give private tutions and it's a headache to teach some kids. The questions they ask are on another level.

There was one child I used to teach who was around 7 and as I used to call my kids Bacha I called him too. And, he immediately said I'm not your bacha. There were 2 elder kids too and they were speechless because I used to call them the same way.

I agree. At times I too feel we were better off without social media, OTT. We were content watching cartoons and any other dumb shows. Atleast we were living as kids unlike kids of today's world.

Your movie experience is hilarious 😂.

Sometimes I feel parents have become lazy. During our childhood we used to get toys to play and our parents used to feed us anyhow. Today's parents will give mobile in the kid's hand so that he/she will have food and slowly they become addicted. And, then parents complain that their child is addicted to the mobile.

Kids have questions that make us question our own intelligence sometimes smiley36

The kids these days are so rude. I can’t imagine behaving like that at that age. Not unless I wanted a good whomping from mom.

It’s one thing to be abusive towards your kids but sometimes looking at the kids nowadays you really think that the old fashioned way had some genuine merit.

The kind of brain-rot these days that passes off for entertainment for kids is unbelievable. I grew up watching Disney, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Jungle Book and all those shows on Sunday we had on DoorDarshan.

God, I miss those simpler times. Even though Cartoon Network came up later, nothing on it was as bad as the kind of stuff that we see nowadays. There’s no innocence left in even things meant for kids, no simplicity.

Glad you found the story funny. My parents certainly felt traumatised smiley36

Regarding the mobile thing! Word! Give your kid a phone or a tablet to get them to behave seems to be the default solution for every situation for parents nowadays. I am no expert or behavioural psychologist or scientist but I dread the long term consequences of such a habit/coping/controlling mechanism on the minds of these kids and their kids eventually!

These parents are handing out gadgets to their kids and I fear these kids will grow up to be adults who will hand over their own kids, if they have any to robots to take care of them! As that’s what they know. Machines help parents, not parents are supposed to look after kids. I know this sounds like an episode of Black Mirror set in 2060 or something but I’m afraid it’s bound to happen and it’s a scary reality to imagine that seems inevitable.

It’s not as dramatic as those two. But can be watched once, the spinoff, a limited series called Queen Charlotte is even better. But it will be worth it to watch the first 3 seasons of the show to enjoy QC better as you will get to understand the main Bridgerton characters better via it.
