Yeah,Shazia it's a festival of harvest, and the end of winter days..The Sun God is worshipped
It's a communal festival of joy, often celebrated the night before Makar Sankranti ..People gather around bonfires, singing and dancing around the fire..For south Indians it is called Bhogi, celebrated by discarding old items, and lighting bonfires (Bhogi Mantalu) to signify letting go of the old and welcoming new energy, prosperity, It symbolizes shedding negativity, old habits, and hardships to embrace a positive future..
For Punjabis, it's called Lohri..basically the same concept...as far as I know ...
