Maybe Karan should direct more and manipulate less...and name his movies again with K in the title...

To cash in on nostalgia because a movie titled K3G2 would do better than a movie that isn't titled that.

He stopped K movie titles with MNIK and that became the movie that was considered his best. So maybe after that, he felt he didn't need to rely on K titles for his films to be successes.

He claimed after RARKPK that the wave of love he got for making that film inspired him to return to directing regularly...but it's been 3 years since then which is normally the amount of time he'd already have his next movie finished rather than just starting.

Right now, most sites are saying Kartik will be the male lead. My guess is female lead is Alia. Ananya will probably be the side female character in the Poo role. My thinking is the secondary male lead will be Lakshya. Maybe Rohit but I don't think KJo sees him as a potential star.

Of course that is logical... like it was done after Covid in abundance by other producers... but with Karan, there are other reasons, too... it's his own state of mind and emotions...He seems to be really messed up.

MNIK initially was only titled "Khan" but then got changed but still with a "K" in the title. Since then, none of his self-directed movies had a K-word...and none of his movies had been clear successes or got the same hype his movies with SRK got. When he offered SRK the role of the dean in SOTY and SRK declined, it had been a clear sign from SRK's side to not push certain boundaries furthermore.

Karan still is part of SRK's 'film-family' but clearly as the elder brotherly dear friend as SRK saw himself since DDLJ. When Karan told on the IIFA stage that he misses to do a film with SRK, latter clearly responded that Karan should, maybe, more concentrate on directing. Although Yash uncle asked SRK before dying to look after Karan (and Dharma), a collaboration with Karan became more and more scarce (I think, Ittefaq in 2017 was the last common production venture and also the last appearance on KWK, SRK's cameo in Brahmastra the last acting and the first Bollywood Housewives episode in 2020 his last appearance in a Dharma production).

The experience with an - allegedly made for the Gen Z - remake of DDLJ should tell Karan that he shouldn't try to make further 'Gen Z' remakes of his former movies. It's like wanting to destroy even t h a t part of his legacy.

He used to say the only movie of his he wants to remake is KANK. A version that is more mature, less Bollywood-filmi. Probably because of his original movies, KANK was the one that got the most mixed reception. But since then, he's talked repeatedly about remaking KKHH and now K3G2 is more or less a remake as well but for Gen Z audiences. He seems to be floundering. I think he knows his early movies are the best (he said in some interview that Dharma was built entirely on his first three films: KKHH, K3G and KHNH) and that's why he keeps trying to get back to them in some shape or way to recreate that magic. Even RARKPK was basically a mix of K3G and KANK but for Gen Z.

Didn't know MNIK's original title. I know KANK was originally titled Kalank. Wonder if KJo felt K titles only suit his SRK movies, K for Khan or K for King.

Sadly, I don't think SRK and Kajol will ever be directed by KJo again. Whether that's his decision or a mutual decision. Rani, on her appearance in KWK with Kajol, flat out told KJo he should make a mature love story with SRK/Kajol. Kajol still does his produced films (Lust Stories 2, Sarzameen). I don't think SRK will do romantic films anymore anyway. During Deepika's birthday/fan event, she was very vocal about how she loves romcoms but in the current climate, it's a type of movie that doesn't work and wouldn't be successful. I think SRK also sees that romance won't get him the blockbusters he needs to keep having in order to live up to his name.

KJo mostly hangs out with the young generation now. He's very open to critiques of his early films and how to make them more "woke" as I guess he feels this keeps him relevant and in-touch with audiences. Except his type of movies, that cater to NRIs, were most successful in the late 90s/2000s and the genre has changed since then.

I won't speculate about SRK and Kajol... they would do a movie together at a 'finger clicking' provided that both agree with the story and have the same 'weight' in the movie (SRK was n o t happy with Kajol's lesser final screentime in MNIK, didn't find the extension of the Wilhelmina-flood part necessary and had advised Karan against it... he also found the storytelling of Dilwale diluted through some 'humour' and the editing). A movie with SRK and Kajol doesn't need a romantic love story, btw.

As for Karan... my feeling tells me not-so-nice things about his 'hanging out' with the young generation and his allegedly being 'woke' and "open to critiques of his early films". To me, that's not something positive.

When you say they would do a movie together at a "finger clicking" do you mean a movie together in general, or a movie together specifically directed by KJo? I'd like to see SRK/Kajol reunite but it's been a decade now since their last. Previously, their largest offscreen gap was 9 years (K3G and MNIK) and SRK is very selective with films now. I feel Dilwale "failing" put a damper on their desire to work together again, and the films that have worked or not worked for SRK since then seem to have made him think that he can only work with young actresses like Deepika, Nayanthara, Taapsee, etc. He seems relucant to work with 90s actresses again, unless they are cameos like Rani in King or Aishwarya who was offered Jawan. Even Vidya, not a 90s actress, falls in that category since Jawan was also offered to her, and she's more grouped with 90s actresses (like Madhuri, Tabu, Rani) than with current actresses (Deepika, Taapsee). I don't see him offering lead roles to any 90s generation actress ever again, although I hope I'm wrong.

Kajol does have less of a presence in the second half of MNIK. I can see why that would have been an issue for her and SRK, especially since Kajol is very picky on having equal screentime. She turned down 3 Idiots, knowing the female role wouldn't be important, and turned down Dabangg 3's villain role, claiming her part was not equal to Salman's. I know Dilwale was just supposed to be a cameo for Kajol at the end, but she wanted a lead role and Rohit Shetty also decided he wanted this. While it's true that SRK/Kajol don't necessarily need a love story (Baazigar, their first, was not purely a romance), I think audiences have an expectation for them. Dilwale was a break from the romance genre and it didn't work for them. They might be reluctant to step outside of that mold again. I think an action film would work though since SRK is almost exclusively doing action films now and Kajol also seems to be interested in films with action roles for her (Maa, Sarzameen, Do Patti). A film more like Pathaan/Jawan/King might be better suited for them than an action comedy like Dilwale.

I can see that. I think he enjoys the feeling of control and power, that he's the industry's kingmaker and can make stars.

It hasn't to be Karan as a director (or even producer) but someone with a story that would fit their maturity and have a valuable thing to tell.

Dilwale had been a good idea on paper - especially with the twist in the first part, but Rohit really messed up with the storytelling - especially with too many diversions and some weird 'humour'.

I don't think that SRK is fixated on action movies but still likes to do action. He just did two after the Pndemic and now King where Suhana not only can show acting but also action... somehow, I feel that King being the third of the full-fledged action movies may also be the most intense one. Pathaan 2 being in some news doesn't mean - to me - that this movie really will happen.
