I think Karan Nandani and Prem Mukti got viewers appreciation and that was why they were given extra time and not vice versa
One thing in favour of them was that at that time the senior pair (Mihir Tulsi and Prerna Bajaj didn't have Ronit as a good) chemistry with the actress, so viewers wanted them and love story was needed..
But right now Amar and Smriti still have freshness, and they are good actors for sure, so audience don't get interested in other pairs (also not that Vridang have a chemistry of Karan Nandani)
IMO, the credit for that also goes to the actors in question. They were also capable of delivering scenes and showcase their range as performers.
Hiten and Karanvir particularly were brilliant when they managed a fine balance in playing antihero/grey characters with such finesse. This could’ve backfired spectacularly if they had been weak actors. They both had scenes that made you angry at them at times but you couldn’t hate them if you tried.
They delivered what the writers wanted.
This time around the male actors are the weakest performers of the show from the new gen, and focusing the show on them would be harakiri.
Besides, the show was not marketed as anything else but Tulsi’s journey again, so I don’t even expect anything else. The rest of the characters are along for the journey, but they’re never going to be the ones in the driving seat regardless what happens.
