I very much doubt.

I know much more about common people's life, dreams, aspirations, copings in a part of India. And there are all kinds of opinions about the neighbouring small country and about the own government (the one before 2014 and the one now)...and every opinion has its sources...

Movies reflect opinions, wishes, dreams, aspirations, experiences but they don't tell 't h e truth'. I like that. smiley1

A nation deserves to be protected regardless of its size. You perhaps didn’t get what I meant earlier. The propaganda against India for any attacks on Pakistan use a narrative of a bigger nation against a smaller one.

Essentially there have been attempts to make it seem like this is another Russia v/s Ukraine situation and of course, we know how since the beginning of this conflict what brush is used to paint Russia by the media.

The reality is messy and not as clear as it’s being presented in an attempt to influence opinions. The buildup to this war has also been decades in the making and it’s not a spur of the moment escalation.

The case is similar here except with a different history that has its parallels in some respects; like Ukraine being once a part of the USSR, the largest part of which is now Russia. Pakistan and Bangladesh were once a part of India as well….

Different roads, similar journeys in a way I suppose.

As for common people of that country, at one point I did believe that as well, but over the past two years watched countless reaction videos of those very ordinary people on YouTube thanks to their own influencers making videos at any given opportunity regarding India be it when we reached Moon, launched a new train Vande Bharat, had an Apple Store open here or when our PM travelled abroad and was honoured by the highest civilian award of the visiting nation.

They could appreciate our success, could even express admiration, jealousy and even admit to feeling bad regarding the state of their own nation in comparison. There were a few who even admitted to having visited India either once or repeatedly, and while they had only good things to say; they were outnumbered by an exceptionally huge margin in comparison to those who openly expressed their hate for us and not just because they know that we have fought 4 wars in the past, all of which they’ve lost; but for our identity, our religious beliefs as Hindus, for the fact that we are not allowing them to slaughter cows as freely as they wish and have made it a crime legally. Though cow slaughter is not required for any other reason besides the fact that we Hindus consider cows sacred. There is not even any attempt to understand the concept behind that reverence but rather they mock and insult us by using dirty slurs.

We don’t consider a cow sacred simply because our ancestors said so, because of some scriptures but it’s rooted in logic. Cow milk is the first substance that replaces a mother’s breast milk for a child - reason being its nourishing while also being light on the stomachs of babies whose digestive systems cannot handle complex foods yet. In cases where mothers run out of milk early, this was the only thing they could feed their child for however long it took. There was no concept of formulas until very recently thanks to modern science. Milk from cows is also used for curd, ghee, buttermilk etc. for our own consumption. Cow milk is still used for poojas and Abhisheks. Manure was used to produce dung cakes which was used for cooking, keeping homes cool in summers that were made from materials that existed prior to the modern bricks, cement and mortar. Cow dung also worked as fertiliser in fields. People who reared cows would support their entire family based on the milk and byproducts they could sell obtained from those cows. Cows were therefore equated with mothers as a sign of ultimate respect for them and all they made possible for us and provided us with and is therefore not some silly superstition of ignorant people.

They’re not stopped from consuming any other animal be it a goat or a sheep or whatever but they’re obsessed with killing an eating cows, only because we Hindus still afford them the same respect as our ancestors did and technically so did theirs before they converted for whatever reasons.

IMO, the true reason for Pakistan’s hate for us isn’t even religious, economic or any recent historical differences between us owing to a certain geographical location. The true reason lies in history predating centuries. It’s because they know their past and refuse to accept it as they know to do so would mean accepting the weaknesses, cowardice or worse, brutal torture subjugation, assaults of their ancestors who gave up their identities to survive.

While they succumbed, we refused to do so and so, we still stand where we were, as who we were and they hate us for that perhaps more than anything.

Our existence is not a reflection of their recent failures but of the failures of their ancestors which they refuse to accept and are too pathetic to rectify.

To provide evidence for this hatred look no further than google searches of blasphemy laws of that country and how they’ve been used against Hindus, Sikhs and Christians who have not fled that country. Google the history of underage girls being kidnapped and forced to convert. Look up who is Mian Mithu and read how operates in Sindh, still the area with what remains as the largest surviving Hindu community in that country. He’s responsible for countless underage girls being kidnapped, converted and then sold into sexual slavery abroad and even within the country in the name of marriage to men old enough to be their fathers and grandfathers. He’s also a politician who has been elected to their national assembly as they call their parliament.

Our hate for that country and its people is not a product of some political party’s ideology or propaganda influencing us. It is their very actions and their consistent attempts to erase our existence that has led us here.

So if in a year or two or three from now we go to war with that country again, or even before that and destroy whatever is left of it - it would still be too little and too late. Also, it would absolutely have no impact of guilt or shame for any Indian who loves their country and hoped we had done this to them a lot sooner but are simply grateful that we see it happening in our lifetimes as it’s better late than never.

Okay so this is movie review thread to be enjoyed by everyone, I understand the topic of the film, but some of the discussions on here are going a bit far and beyond the film, this thread is just for the films discussion.

If people want to talk about politics or religion then there are other areas on the forum where this can be discussed

I am a pakistani and a muslim and I didnt see anything in the film against the average pakistani population or against Muslims. Also, i don't hate India or Hindus, so lets make that clear, as I am seeing accusations of all Pakistanis hating Indians, and all Muslims hating hindus, which is simply not true no matter how many times people try to say it.

Anyway I'll leave it at that, going to continue talking about the movie now

Dhurandhar is an engaging spy film, largely because it immerses you in the unfamiliar world of the enemy side. The storytelling is structured in chapters, and the whole runtime is long. So the narrative can be uneven and too predictable at times, but where it matters most, the film delivers effectively. You watch it for the strong performances, especially by Akshaye Khanna and Ranveer Singh.

I understand.

People abroad particularly think in a different manner. As an Indian, my views are coloured based on my experiences.

It’s curious how in the age of social media as well news can be suppressed, ignored, misinterpreted or purposely misrepresented based on the people behind it and their biases which also depend on their revenues.

As an Indian my views are based on none of the news reports but simply what we had to live through. One of the movie’s most impactful moments comes from the 26/11 scene. I am from Mumbai, have been born and raised here, lived here all my life and let me tell you, that scene was barely touched the gruesome reality of that day’s horror.

Commandos were purposely delayed from arriving to rescue hostages and by the time they did, the whole media was there to cover it as the world’s most morbid live horror show. They showed us a clip of a couple of transcripts but didn’t show the shooting at Leopold Cafe, at CST station, they didn’t include the mention of the rape of a woman who was assaulted because she was a Jew and later killed alongside her husband who happened to be a Rabbi. Their only survivor was their son barely a toddler.

The then CM of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh reached the site of the attacks with his son Ritiesh, an actor AND a director in tow within no time. The man trying to be our PM today, the current leader of opposition, was off partying in a few days as well as if the attack was no big deal. In a way it was and in a way it wasn’t. India saw regular bomb blasts in those years and the news of a couple of dozen deaths was so common in bomb blasts. This was by far their biggest attack on our soil but unfortunately not the last one. I almost lost my mom in one of those attacks nearly 2 decades ago.

We couldn’t be safe anywhere in our own homeland for no fault of ours. And that’s not a feeling that I wish upon anyone. It’s pretty ugly, uncomfortable and unfortunate.

We never knew when a day could be the one that’s our last while we were simply doing mundane things - going to work/school/home or stepping out for shopping groceries or a movie or outing with friends.

And we got a man who said he was proud of not responding brutally or violently against our perpetrators despite massive pressure as our prime minister of all things.

Worse, we were gonna get labelled as terrorists by the party in power based on our numbers. In 2011, an act was proposed in the parliament that never passed thankfully which intended to pin down the largest majority of people of this country as the defacto criminals in case of a mob attack, irrespective of the reasons behind the same, the tipping point, if I might call it that, and blame it on us simply because we have the most numbers in this country. Simply because we choose to still follow the faith of our ancestors that originated in this land rather than accept a faith of foreign origin or an offshoot of our own religion Hinduism be it as Jains, Buddhists or Sikhs. It was as if we were meant to be punished for simply existing and being ourselves, respecting our past and our ancestors.

Of course later we would find out how a terrorist organisation did have a plan mapped out for 2047 to convert this whole land into their faith. And along with that plan would be found rate cards to convert girls from various Hindu, Sikh, Jains, Buddhists, tribals and even Christian communities. Imagine being commodified in your own land for your gender, for your faith, for your existence without any fault of yours and having no awareness whatsoever regarding it as well.

So while people who don’t understand these complexities because they’ve no clue about what we’ve been dealing with for ages may have their opinions based on whatever they think, know and therefore belive. As Indians living in India, we are clear and aware of our lived realities in this country and hence unapologetically ourselves regardless of what the world has to say… because as the movie puts it in the very beginning, we are the people who have been raised on the followings of Gita.

Hence despite what might appear as propaganda or political manipulation or even some supposed conspiracy, we are loving and supporting this movie so strongly. It’s because a movie has finally been bold and brave enough to depict our enemies for what they are, and states unapologetically what it is we must do to them if we wish to survive.
