A much-improved performance from the West Indies compared to the previous Test, but despite their resilience, they still trail by a massive 270 runs. Consequently, India have enforced the follow-on. Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze put on a solid partnership for the second wicket yesterday, but once that stand was broken, the visitors lost momentum and slipped to 107 for 4. Hope and Imlach then steadied the innings with a composed partnership, but Kuldeep Yadav turned the tide in the morning session with a superb spell, removing both batters in quick succession. He soon added another to his tally, dismissing Greaves to further tighten India’s grip on the contest. A late stand of 46 between Pierre and Phillip for the ninth wicket added some respectability, but Bumrah struck immediately after lunch to clean up Pierre with a peach. The 10th wicket partnership tested India’s patience, with Phillip showing solid defence against Bumrah, while Seales displayed positive intent, especially against Kuldeep. Seales became Kuldeep’s fifth victim, falling to a well-disguised googly. It’ll be interesting to see WI's approach in their second innings.

The last time before this Test an Indian captain enforced follow-on with a sub-300 lead was Virat Kohli against Bangladesh in Fatullah in 2015, where one day’s play was washed out.
