Makkah is a sacred place just like Vatican city, whereas streets are public places for everyone. Why would non muslims want to visit a region where a pilgrimage is performed for those practising Islam only?

I am curious to know if Vatican City restricts entry to anyone ? That place has the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope resides there .
