Commercial surrogacy is banned in India in 2024. Only altruistic surrogacy is permitted, with no monetary gain for surrogates.

Who is eligible to become a surrogate mother under the new law?

Eligible surrogate mothers in 2024 Law, they must be married, aged 25-35, and have one biological child.

But as usual, our people know that there are many ways to violate the law and modify/amend it to suit to their needs!! Unfortunately, people in India want boys because, India is a patriarchical society, sons inherit the family's patrimony. Second, parents prefer male children because sons are expected to provide financial support and care for their parents in old age, and they need them for their funeral rites!

In my opinion, choosing a boy over a girl and attempting to kill the girl child is an insult to your mother and wife. Son preference and daughter neglect in India is an age-old evil that still prevails in this so-called modern age!

As Swetha rightly mentioned, even in surrogacy, people are opting for a boy rather than a child!!

These are a few rules for Indian citizens to follow while opting for a surrogacy to get a child, but as we know, no one follows!!

Pregnancy is not easy on women, it has irreversible consequences for the body and in many cases, it can lead to death

Now we are thinking about women who can't have kids but want kids, well they have an option to adopt

In any case using woman's body for 9 months in a country like India where healthcare is in shambles, is nothing but cruelty

Women's body can't be "rented", it is inhumane to believe that one gets to control body of another human for months and in the end, they face consequences

She can't even change her mind or simply abort the child because ours laws don't allow for such abortions

Surrogacy is an evil practice exploiting women and using their bodies

Rajesh Kattar and his wife did multiple IVFs.. and finally had twins.. Boys.. ( one of whom died in womb )

Krushna Abhishek and Kashmera Shah used surrogacy to have twins.. Boys..

In a patriarchal society in India.. Boy child is celebrated.. smiley39smiley29

1. Many people.. single or married use surrogate to have a BOY..

2. Many couples choose IVF to have a BOY..

3. Many couples living in India fly abroad with pregnant wives to get gender testing.. to find out if they have a BOY..

That's really bad , how insulting to women

Aren't their mothers women , it's a shame that civilisation still can't change people thought on " boys are more important"

It really is an insult to their wives and mothers . Girls should be given importance too . Children should be a gift meant to cherish and love , train to become good human beings and that should be enough for parents .

This harsh society have placed men on high pedestals that men would harass a woman and will be defended for it but when the woman retaliate she becomes too vile .

You tagged me in the post you wrote about SRK and Amir naming them specifically as a negative example for a certain thinking about their motives... I won't comment on that as I don't believe in that reasoning.

I went through all posts, great points of views. Since a lot is already said about surrogate mothers, I'll talk about someone who’s often overlooked in this conversation: the biological mother. The woman who turns to surrogacy, not out of convenience, but out of her longing, yearning. Especially all the negative connoations around this whole concept, no thanks to our TV shows, I think one side is mostly ignored.

For many women, surrogacy isn't a trend or a shortcut, it’s a last hope. It’s a chance at happiness after heartbreak, after failed attempts, after years of grief. It’s a chance towards her dream of holding a baby who shares her smile, her quirks, her love for books or music etc. A child she can see a reflection of herself in!

Of course, i know the common counterargument is, ā€œWhy not adopt? blood isn’t everything.ā€ And sure that’s valid, adoption is a beautiful choice. But why should we expect or force or make it compulsory for a woman to let go of her own dreams just because biology failed her? Wanting a biological child doesn't make someone ungrateful or selfish. It makes them human. And no one should be shamed for that.

Having said, like any other great scientific inventions, surrogacy too is two-edged sword. So misuses can happen. But that doesn't mean there are no positive sides to it...

Indeed a Very engaging thread.

My 2 cents here:

Parenthood is beautiful and children are a blessing.

Surrogacy is something I have not understood. Hence, if the question is about having children, in my opinion, there are just 2 options: on one side we have a family that we are blessed with and another is a family by choice (adoption).

Why does adoption fall short in this?

We live in a society, globally, where bloodline is very important. For some reason, there is very strong resistance to accept a child that is not one's own by blood.

Likewise, there are multiple examples of children being affected upon learning the truth of adoption and distancing themselves.

But is surrogacy the only option to address these?

Not sure.

If a child would be affected by knowing that he/she is adopted, would the child not be affected that he/she was birthed by another woman who he never had a chance to raise him/her?

Is it fair on the surrogate mother who undergoes 9 months of emotional upheaval only to be detached from the child she birthed?

Who takes the risk based call during childbirth?

Have we not seen cases where the children have been abandoned if the child is detected with?

Totally agree with you. It's a hard NO.

Having watched these two documentaries, it exposes it all.

Surrogacy is extremely complicated; while some view it as a form of choice and empowerment, others view it as exploitation. It truly depends on the situation, ethics, and safety measures.
