Commercial surrogacy is banned in India in 2024. Only altruistic surrogacy is permitted, with no monetary gain for surrogates.
Who is eligible to become a surrogate mother under the new law?
Eligible surrogate mothers in 2024 Law, they must be married, aged 25-35, and have one biological child.
But as usual, our people know that there are many ways to violate the law and modify/amend it to suit to their needs!! Unfortunately, people in India want boys because, India is a patriarchical society, sons inherit the family's patrimony. Second, parents prefer male children because sons are expected to provide financial support and care for their parents in old age, and they need them for their funeral rites!
In my opinion, choosing a boy over a girl and attempting to kill the girl child is an insult to your mother and wife. Son preference and daughter neglect in India is an age-old evil that still prevails in this so-called modern age!
As Swetha rightly mentioned, even in surrogacy, people are opting for a boy rather than a child!!
These are a few rules for Indian citizens to follow while opting for a surrogacy to get a child, but as we know, no one follows!!
