Jawaan had stronger promo content. That said, SRK’s return, John and Deepika’s presence, and the music all played a big part. The controversy added hype, and YRF got free publicity.
It’s frustrating to watch an actor of Hrithik Roshan’s calibre repeatedly sign up for big, glossy action films that offer very little by way of soul or storytelling. Yes, he’s magnetic on screen. Yes, few can match his physicality, grace, and star power. But what happened to the Hrithik who gave us Koi Mil Gaya, Lakshya, Jodhaa Akbar, or even Guzaarish?
Lately, his choices—mostly slick action tentpoles—feel like missed opportunities. These films often prioritise spectacle over substance, with plotlines that blur into one another and characters that lack depth. While they rake in the money and give him heroic moments, they rarely challenge him as an actor or give us anything emotionally lasting.
We’ve seen what he’s capable of when given layered roles. We know he can do more than punch, pose, and pout his way through explosions.
