How come Madz won BA for DTPH over Sridevi in Judaai?

Both released in 97. Both superhits.

But no one can question that Madz was nothing award worthy in DTPH. And to give her an award in same year when Sri gave a Judaai which was also a superhit but also anyday was a much better and layered performance than Madz in DTPH.

Is it because Sri was boycotted post 97 due to her personal life and Madz was more media friendly? or did she actually deserve to win over Sri in Judaai?

I really think Sri got robbed. Sad coz it happened to her in her last movie before sabbatical and also in her comeback English Vinglish. She was robbed both the times.

How is Madz winning an award for DTPH over Sridevi's performance in Judaai? Sri was so amazing in that role and it was a much more layered character anyday. In fact, both Sri and Urmila were robbed coz these 2 were anyday better than Madz and lolo when it comes to acting alone for these movies.

both were average performances at best. DTPH was a bigger hit , so Madhuri awarded on popular bases.

plus .. i guess there is voting for Filmfare popular award category, maybe Madhuri got most votes.

Back then Yash Chopra probably had a bigger monopoly over the industry and media. I’m not sure of the exact time frame but there was a period when Filmfare function was being held at YRF studios. That’s a huge conflict of interest specially when you have YRF movies/actors up for awards.

Karishma also won a Filmfare for her part in DTP. Her performance wasn’t anything to write home about either.

I love both actresses dearly. Madhuri looked like a dream in DTPH. But her performance wasn’t anything extraordinary. You are right. Sridevi deserved the award. I agree with you.

Madhuri looked like a dream in DTPH. I love her saris. Yash Chopra movies are a treat to watch. The way he presented his heroines 🦸‍♀️ is simply incredible.

FF awards and its likes have lost all credibility long back. It’s very well known that they award the most popular rather than the best (performance).

And even though I love SRK, I knew the awards were crap since he won a string of best actor awards for many years in a row over some of the much better performances like by Aamir and others.

Anyway, these don’t affect me anymore like it used to earlier. Maturity is…and all that jazz

Same with male actor awards and not just that year. No SM at that time so they got away without much noise. Just look at how Alia was shamed and trolled last year for buying the award for a mediocre performance.

She didn’t wear many sarees in DTPH..but her flowy salwar kameez were a rage..gorgeous.

Though both movies were not that great..Judaai had pathetic storyline..Urmila’s character was likable and Sri’s was extremely annoying. But both women were selfish..Glad the actors didn’t win awards
