Hi guys,

Just wanted to know the meaning of “mythology”.

I am so confused, we consider everything as a myth if it’s not justified by the west?? Is it?

I mean, well there is a lot written in “our” books. Considering that 90 percent of everything thats mentioned in “our” books ( books which are based on “mythical” sanatani history, ofcourse) is science. Be it anything, even the world historians are now considering the world events like Ramayan, war of kuru clan( Mahabharat) were infact reality based on various finds. The astronomical events which are mentioned in various books are actually truth.

Then the question…. Why we still call it a myth. But we consider everything that other religions shove down our throat as truths?

Just because we are unable to understand half of what was there or we consider it as a “cool” culture to demean and devalue our golden history as a “myth”???

I don't agree with this forum title… please rename it as “sanatani” history or history of Bharat not some Indian myth. Its a humble request.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with such passion — we truly appreciate it when members raise important questions like these. Your concerns are absolutely valid, and this is a topic that sparks discussion not just within our community, but globally.

We completely agree that the epics like the Ramayan, Mahabharat, and other ancient texts from the Sanatan tradition are much more than just “stories.” They are deeply rooted in philosophy, astronomy, metaphysics, and moral frameworks that continue to guide generations. Many modern researchers, scientists, and archaeologists have started acknowledging the possibility that these events and characters may be based on real people, places, and occurrences.

That said, the reason we named the forum “Indian Mythology” was not to demean or devalue our cultural and historical heritage. The term mythology in this context is used not as a synonym for “false”, but in its academic and literary sense — to refer to the body of traditional stories, beliefs, and narratives passed down through generations. This is how the term is widely used across cultures — for example: Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology, Egyptian Mythology, and even Japanese Mythology — all of which contain stories that are deeply revered and form the foundation of those civilizations.

We also chose the term because it is a widely recognized and accessible category that helps people — including those who might just be discovering the richness of our culture — to find and engage with this content more easily.

That said, we absolutely understand and respect your suggestion. Perhaps a future update could include a subtitle or description that clarifies our intention — such as:

Indian Mythology – Exploring the stories, wisdom, and spiritual history of Bharat

This way, we strike a balance between global familiarity and cultural authenticity.

Thank you once again for your heartfelt message — your voice matters, and we’re always open to evolving through such discussions. 🙏

Warm regards,
