There are multiple versions of Ramayana, however, they all differ from the authentic version of Valmiki Ramayana.

Here are incidences that are not mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana:

There was no swayamwar held for Sita and Shri Ram.

Ahilya never turned into a stone. Instead she was cursed to live on air devoid of food and water for thousands years until Shri Ram doesn't visit her.

Shri Ram did not lay his feet on Ahilya. Instead he clasped her leg and thus she got her back the lustre and zest which she had lost after the curse.

There was no lakshman rekha drawn by Lakshman before he left to help Shri Ram.

Shri Ram never knew in advance about Sita's abduction. He didn't ask Agni to create a Maya Sita. It was real Sita who was abducted by Ravana.

Ravan never carried Sita by the land she was standing on. He literally snatched her by hair and lifted her by her thighs while abducting.

There was no mention of Vali acquiring away half power of whom he fought with.

Neither Hanuman nor the vanar sena have any weapon. They rather used mountains, boulders and trees to fight the battle.

There was no RAM written on the stones thrown for building the bridge. They rather used boulders, trees, stones to build the bridge.

Vibhishan never directed Hanuman in Lanka about the whereabouts of Sita.

Lakshman was injured by Ravana's javelin. He was injured twice but the second time it was grave.

There was no mention of Sahasra ravan or Sita taking the form of Maa Kali to kill him.

There was no Ahiravan, the elder brother of Ravan who lived in Patal Loka and for killing whom Hanuman took the form of Panch mukhi Hanuman.

Sushena was not a physician from Lanka, but the father in law of Sugriva, alias Tara’s father.

Hanuman was not shot by Bharata while the former was carrying the Sanjeevani herb for treating Lakshman.

In Valmiki Ramayana, Vishnu promises to take birth as the sons of Dasharatha during the yagna. However, Shri Ram, born in the human form is not aware that he is Vishnu till the end. Moreover, unlike other versions he is not aware of Ravana coming to abduct Sita and more. It is in the end where Brahma reminds Shri Ram to be Vishnu himself and Sita to be Lakshmi.

Ravan had never captured all the 12 planets, nor did he press Shani below his legs.

There was no episode of Ravana’s men trying to lift Angad's feet.

Ravan had never prepared any separate horoscope for Meghnad nor threatened the planets to change their places.

Vibhishan never directed Shri Ram about how to kill Ravana.

There was no amrit in his stomach. Shri Ram hit the arrow presided by Brahma that pierced his heart.

Shri Ram did not send Lakshman to learn from Ravan on deathbed.

Ravana was never a shivbhakt. Neither did Mahadeva bestow any boon onto him.

There is no mention of Makardhwaj, the son of Hanuman born through his sweat that fell into the ocean while coming back from Lanka.

Ravan was never the presiding priest for helping Shri Ram build the bridge.

Ravana was never informed about Shri Ram's birth, neither did he kidnap Kaushalya in a box to defy the prophesy.

Sita was never born to Mandodari and Ravan.

Hanuman wasn't sent by Shri Ram to inform Sita about the victory and get her back. It was Vibhishan who was alloted the task.

Shri Ram never asked Sita to give agnipariksha. Sita being hurt by his reproachment decides to get into fire, and asks Lakshman to set the pyre.

Ravana never abducted Sita for seeking Mukti in the hands of Shri Ram. He was predominantly driven by lust.

Ravana was never pious to have not touched Sita. Instead he was scared for his life due to a curse hurled on him, which meant touching any women without her permission will get his head burst into pieces.

Sati never came to meet Shri Ram in the guise of Sita to test his love for Sita.

There is no mention of Ravana singing Shiv Tandav Stotra in Valmiki Ramayana.

It did not take 18 days for Shri Ram to reach Ayodhya from Lanka.

There is no mention of Shri Ram getting Mandodari married to Vibhishan after the war.

There is no mention of Lava and Kusha stopping Shri Ram's ashwamedh horse or having any fight with Shatrugna or Shri Ram. It is not part of Uttara Kanda by Valmiki.

Urmila did not sleep for 14 years nor Lakshman stayed awake for 14 years.

Shabri did not feed half eaten fruits to Shri Ram.

Awesome! You have compiled so many smiley32

Just one thing I wanted to clarify... I remember reading Rama sent Hanuman to Sita to inform her of their victory. Later Vibhishan arrives with a retinue to formally give her this message and to take her to Rama with due honour. I might have to re-read again but I am fairly certain Hanuman was sent to Sita with the victory message.

Also, I think Ahalya was supposed to serve Rama without expecting anything in return - she wasn't supposed to expect salvation when he visited. She did so and served them all with utmost devotion and hence, after Rama was pleased with her, she was liberated.

It wasn't mentioned explicitly that Ravana was a Shiva devotee but was hinted he worshipped Lord Shiva. It's certainly possible that Ravana worshipped more than one deity and it's also possible that he didn't bother to do so after receiving boons from Lord Brahma.

A few things more if I can add... I don't know much or remember much, especially which version has which story and precise details of the war but will share what I am certain of smiley9

When Rama and Lakshmana were wounded by Nagapasha and were senseless on the ground and after Sita sees them and is taken back, Rama regains consciousness although he was still wounded. He laments for Lakshmana who is still unconscious and Garuda arrives to heal them both. Hanuman did not have to drag the mighty bird down to the Earth. Garuda came on his own.

Kumbhakarna didn't have a regular sleep pattern. He sometimes slept for days and sometimes for months, even 8 months at a time. He was awake when Ravana convened the court to discuss the situation after Hanuman burns Lanka. Kumbhakarna chides Ravan but assures him that he will fight for him and then goes back to sleep. He was woken up 9 days later to participate in the fight after Prahasta was killed.

Vibhishana actively participated in the war. There are even accounts of Sampati helping but not fully sure if it was Valmiki Ramayana. Vibhishana scolds Ravan (after his initial court discussion and talk with Kumbhakarna), his ministers and Indrajit in the court and then Ravana insults him so much that it infuriates Vibhishana. He leaves and joins Rama. It was Sarama (Vibhishan's wife) who stays with Sita and helps her during the war. Trijata is also mentioned but not as much as Sarama.

It was Ravana who hit Lakshmana with a spear that wounded him so much, not Indrajit. Vibhishana slew Ravana's charioteer and horses and this enraged Ravana so much that he wanted to kill Vibhishana then and there with a spear (a (wedding) present from his father-in-law Maya, when he married Mandodari). Lakshmana intervened and Ravana hit Lakshmana with the spear. Ravana turned his chariot and proceeded towards Lanka. Rama was nearby and saw it happen, for a moment was grieved for his brother but then attacked Ravana in rage. Ravana had to flee. It was after this Rama gave way to sorrow and lamented. (I have always wanted to see this version but none of the Ramayans show this. NDTV Imagine showed something similar when Bharat was hurt after the wedding but not with Lakshman). Thus Ravana did not hit Rama with his 'shakthi' astra but Lakshmana was the one who got hit.

Hanuman very well knew which herbs to pick for Lakshmana and the others. Sushena was Sugriva's minister and a chief in his army, also Tara's father, Angada's maternal grandfather. He had immense knowledge on medicine and also fought in the war. But he didn't know of these life saving herbs. It was Jambavan who told Hanuman about them, where they grow and how to find them. He brings the herbs twice and the last time (or second last, not too sure), when Lakshman was hurt with Ravana's spear, he didn't pause to pick the herbs but tore the mountain from its base and flew back. It wasn't because he didn't know but because he didn't have time. There was no excursion with Kalanemi as per Valmiki Ramayan.

After the war, Rama meets Dasaratha and after receiving his blessings asks that his mother Kaikeyi and brother Bharatha be forgiven and accepted into the family again. When IndraDev insists on Rama asking for a boon, he asks that all the vanars who lost their lives in the war to come back alive and his wish was granted. Also, Lord Indra did not promise this chariot beforehand but seeing Rama fight Ravana on foot (and sometimes on Hanuman) send his chariot and charioteer to help Rama.

One last thing. It's not explicitly mentioned but heavily hinted. Angada was very close to Lakshmana. What Hanuman was to Ram, Angada was to Lakshmana. Hanuman bore Ram on his shoulders and Angad used to carry Lakshmana the same way. Lakshmana was so pleased with Angada and was so affectionate with this young vanara that he named his firstborn after the vanar prince. (Again, I have always wanted to see this bond explored but not one version of Ramayana shows this).

That's all I can remember nowsmiley18

There was no swayamvar itself. Sita had never seen Rama before the wedding as far as I can remember (as per Valmiki Ramayan). After the bow was broken (the scene was beautifully described in Valmiki Ramayan and it was cute in a way), Janaka sends message to Dasaratha, who arrives with Bharath and Shathrugan, ministers and sages. Janaka also sends for Kushadhwaja, who was also a king and he also visits in preparation for Sita's wedding. When Dasaratha arrives, he learns that Janaka has two daughters and asks/suggests (through sage Vasishta) that they be given to his sons and Janaka agrees to give Sita to Rama and Urmila to Lakshman. When Kushadhwaja is introduced, Vasishta (or Vishwamitra, don't remember) suggested that Kushadhwaja's daughters also be wed to the remaining two sons, hence it was fixed that Bharatha would wed Mandavi and Shathrugan Shrutakirthi.

Yes.

Mithila was under siege for a year and then Janaka performed severe austerities and penances asking help from the gods. He was given an army and divine weapons (not sure of the latter) and he was able to defend Mithila. Kushadhwaja was also king and not a minister or general as shown in this series. The four sisters may have grown up together but Mandvi and Shrutakirti weren't in Mithila when Rama broke the bow. They must have come over for Sita's wedding and their wedding was also fixed. It was Janaka who gave away all four maidens at the wedding.

Shabhari did not give bitten fruits to Ram and Lakshman. She knew how to serve people and wouldn't bite offerings. She did say she had gathered many different types of fruits for Ram and offered them - not sure if they were fresh or dried or both.

Somada and Chuli? Rishi and Gandharvi? What are these about?

I am familiar with Ayoninukhi but that story is exactly what happened with Shurpanakha in Valmiki Ramayan.

And yes, Dasaratha had many more wives apart from his 3 principal queens.
