Nawazuddin Siddiqui to lead "House’s" Indian adaptation

India fully embraced long-format content when Vikramaditya Motwane, Varun Grover, and Anurag Kashyap partnered with Netflix to create Sacred Games. The show quickly became a cultural phenomenon, gaining a massive following and cementing Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s status as a star with his portrayal of Gaitonde. Six years have passed since Siddiqui last appeared in a streaming series, but that is about to change. According to the latest reports, the Gangs of Wasseypur star is set to return to long-format storytelling with Disney+ Hotstar, starring in the Hindi adaptation of a popular American medical drama. House to Get an Indian Adaptation

Six years after striking gold with Sacred Games, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is making his return to the web series format with the Hindi adaptation of House, the hit American medical drama. According to Peeping Moon, this Indian remake is being developed for Disney+ Hotstar.

The series will be produced by Banijay Asia, with acclaimed screenwriter-turned-filmmaker Vijay Maurya directing. Currently in pre-production, the show is expected to begin filming in mid-2025. Reports suggest that Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been cast as the lead, taking on the role originally played by Hugh Laurie. The show has yet to receive an official Indian title

Created by David Shore, House originally aired for eight seasons between 2004 and 2012. The series followed Dr. Gregory House, a brilliant but cynical and misanthropic medical genius who, despite his personal struggles, led a successful diagnostic team at a prestigious hospital. The official logline read:"Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is a maverick medical genius who heads a team of young diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. Most episodes start with a cold open outside

Vijay Maurya, known for his work on Gully Boy, Agni, Darlings, and Roofan, has adapted the series for Indian audiences. Siddiqui has reportedly heard the script and is excited about the project. Alongside this, the actor has an exciting lineup of upcoming projects, including Netflix India's Raat Akeli Hai 2 with Chitrangda Singh, as well as Thama, Bole Chudiyaan, Noorani Chehra, and Bhavesh Mandalia’s Lion King.

Why oh why again a Western adaptation...isn't there enough medical 'content' in Indian life to create a medical series having the finger on the pulse of the time??? *sigh*
