Mohammad Kaif was an old Pakistani cricket player, Jackie Shroff's wife, producer of Katrina's debut Boom revealed in a video interview she really liked the name Kaif with Katrina so she took it from that ex Pakistani cricketer's name and Kat had no objection over her filmy name.

Please do search Ayesha Shroff's video interview where she clearly and loudly informed that her last name was kept on an ex Pak cricketer Mohammad Kaif's name as both she and Jackie liked the sound of it , as they knew that cricketer very well from his times and wanted to give this fimli name to Katrina for her debut Boom, and Kat liked it ad well.
I thought this is a common knowledge at IF, didn't knew few will consider it as some sort of a joke 🙄

you are right, Kat’s last name was kept on Kaif. but it’s not Pakistani Kaif, it’s an Indian Kaif. Mohammad Kaif was talk of the town for his (along with Yuvraj Singh) memorable performance in the Natwest Series Final 2002.
